The Forums are Broken!

By Forums, I mean, all forums. Not just the Eve forum. Broken is an exaggeration to get you to read this thread, but what I mean by this is that they're not fulfilling their intended function properly. These forums should be here to get an idea of what their whole player-base thinks about their game. At the moment the forums only show CCP what a very small minority of the forum users think.

What is happening, is that someone with no sense of how the game works posts something about how terrible Eve is and then everyone berates them for it. In turn making sure their thread stays at the top of the forum subsection and therefore making it one of the most read and discussed topics.

So what I'm basically saying is that half decent ideas or topics don't get any discussion and the terrible threads end up at the top. Where-by CCP only get to follow those terrible topics.

Below are some examples of ways we could help prevent this.

Quote:
-Instead of every post in a discussion shooting that thread right up to the top of the page, each post could raise it up by one place. And we could have a "Do Not Want!" button that will lower it by one place.

-Other options is also to sort by good/bad rating... if we could do that (and ourselves chose how to sort, not global sorting). (By Chribba)

-Option to post without bumping a thread. (By Barrogh Habalu)

This isn't exactly a fully fledged idea, its just a concept. CCP needs a function within the forum to keep good, well thought through threads up the top of the forum pages where they can be seen and better discussed instead of all the crap that's there now. For the time being we just need some recognition that this is a problem.

More power to the trolls? They will just keep mashing the DO NOT WANT button? Uh... No.

I said it wasn't a full fledged idea. It's just a concept, otherwise this would be in the Features and Ideas section. I am saying that we need some method of keeping **** threads that nobody wants there, away from the top of the forum.

I guess, but there's always the bump tactic to move a thread to the first screen or so. I don't like having to do it, but for certain sub-forums e.g. Bugs/Workarounds, they seem to be so infrequently commented on or read, that I have to do this sometimes.

So you are basically saying that all EVE-O Forum Posters all suck and CCP should exercise some kind of Mind Control over the player base to make sure all posts conform to standard.

That's really a rather large troll attempt.

Or maybe as a part of owning an account, you are forced to make one sensible post per month... or well maybe not.

Isn't this how forums in general work though? If something isn't discussed it gets forgotten and lands way back. While active stuff gets more exposure (regardless of it being terribad or not)?

Other options is also to sort by good/bad rating... if we could do that (and ourselves chose how to sort, not global sorting).

Forums do not reflect the majorities and minorities of opinions and mindsets of a community. Period.

Since a small group of forum dudes can claim to be the majority, sure it is dangerous to listen to a handful of ppl who are able to start various threads about a topic which then looks like many people would actually care and demand a change etc.

Liquid feedback ftw.

Not CCP, the players should have better control to show popular opinion.

Your plan would be as easy as hearding cats.

That's like trying to control the 'quality' of classified ads in a newspaper.

Will never happen.

You are asking for a change in the basic structure of human communication in place for......how many millions of years?

This Thread will eventually drop to the bottom like all threads: good, bad, and irrelevant

This may even be some sort of meta trolling,
because he damn well knows that this thread will get bumped to the top
every time somebody posts into it ...

... i see what you did there !

Anyway, the idea of ratings only works on the assumption that people aren't acting in groups.
Which they will do.

Conclusion: All goon-threads at the top.

What, CCP is incapable of looking at page 2 or scrolling down?

You're still leaving the thread's position manipulation up to the forum users. But I like this one. I know several OPs that could use a lot of negative bumping.

They have this function. It's called "sticky" and CCP uses it. :)

You know, you could just create an EvE-subreddit on reddit.

Oh wait..there is already one.

Wait some more....there are even 4 right now...

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.
