Curious Thing about Gas Cloud material.....

Unprocessed Ore goes in the Orca's Ore Hold.

Unprocessed Ice Products go in the Orca's Ore Hold.

Unprocessed Gas Cloud material does not go in the Orca's Ore Hold.

Is there any particular reason for this ?

The Orca's airvents in the ore-hold can't be closed, hence the gas escapes.

Not really a good idea for a spaceship to have air vents that open into space. Next...............

Ore and ice are handled the same by the code. There is no difference between them.

e.g. you cant refine gas, so gas is different.

Ah, but the gas does get reacted with water in order to form Boosters. But it remains that It is a raw product just like Ice or Ore. So is the point of an Ore Hold to hold raw product or truly refineable only ?

As originally coded, according to CCP [there is a post around here somewhere] the ore hold is for hauling ore-like material. It was easier to code that way.

Sure it could / should be changed, but I was only responding to the question posed Blink

you can't put water in the ore hold either.

Water from a PI planet is considered P1, after refining Aqueous Liquids (P0). I don't think I've tried loading a P0 into an Orca Ore Hold........

(notice the pattern here? for X, where X is not ore, 'you can't put X in the ore hold either' brilliantly simple :) This thing, called the ore hold, only fits ore. Ore, not anything else. Yep. )

FWI this will be changing with the coming patch, ccp finally noticed it with their new gas harvesting ore hold equiped frigate. Roll

changing only for the frigate, or for all other ships with ore holds as well?

This guy guessed the correct answer !

I brought up this thread when it became obvious to me that the Gas Harvesting Frigate would screw with the concept of an "ore" hold and that it would have to be looked at. Unless they add a 'Gas Hold' to an already tiny Frigate with both a Cargo and an Ore Hold.........rather unrealistic for such a small ship.

Nothing has been mentioned at all along these lines so far.

Thanks for conducting the experiment so I didn't have to waste time.

Here is pretty much all we know. They mention Gas Harvesting, but it only has an Ore Hold and a tiny Cargo Hold.

edit: corrected linkage

They confirmed somewhere that gas will go to that frig's ORE™ Hold. So far it is automatically deliverd there, but can't be put there manually. It was stated that it will be possible to load gas manually though.

We need Linkage on that. Otherwise it is just absolute Speculation still.
