Hey guys/gals/CCP

This is my first post on the EVE forums, love the game, mechanics,...etc.

Am not a whiny type of a guy but this updates are killing me. In the last couple of updates I got an error massage like every second update and because of the crappy 5MB i had to download and reinstall the whole game, which I find extremely absurd.

Didn't even bother to check the logs before, just kept my mouth shut and did the above process. This time I feel the need to at least say something.

So I am wondering what, if anything, CCP is doing about that...and is it their fault at all or is it my computer (and we all know Mac's are never wrong)?

All the best.

my log error: (rest has OK next to it, the below have SHA1 Error)

I am receiving the exact same error, and the game is telling me I need to do a complete reinstall.

Is this true, or is there a workaround fix that we Mac users can do to allow us to play the newly patched game?

Thank you.

Got similar problem.

After downloading the patch, it run it. Immediately a verifying procedure starts: it always stops halfway.
Checking the logs, i noticed this:

Examining File : /Contents/MacOS/cider -> SHA1 Error

Rest is all OK.

I got a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5.
So far patches went just fine, but i'm playing on mac only for a couple of months.
I also run multiple clients on it. To do that i followed the manual procedure on the evewiki.

I'm already downloading the client again, but it wouldn't be bad to find a faster solution. :)

Yeah the auto patch did not complete, seemed to bug out half way through and the log gave a cide error

Examining File : /Contents/MacOS/cider -> SHA1 Error

Then used the generic patch tool of the TQ patch page, after applying this to the client, on start up another 5426kb patch for Incarna 1.1.2 was uploaded automatically, this connects to TQ and seems to be the current client working.

So thankfully no need to download the full client.

Same exact thing happened to me! How fix?

Probably going to need to download a new client. What's the word, CCP?

Have you tried using the Generic Mac Patch? It is designed to work like the repair tool and should fix your installation.

If you are trying to patch a cloned client this may also be the reason you are getting the error as well. Just patch your original and then reclone. Tell yourself you are a mad scientist and it is necessary for the future of mankind! Or something.... Good luck I hope this will get your errors sorted out.

Install still failed even after using the Generic Mac Patch aka manual download.

Just so its known, for me it worked perfectly. I trashed my 2 clones, ran eve which did the Patch, then the client update, and it all worked. I then made 2 new clones. On running them they both wanted to do the client update, which also worked.

So there must be something different about your setup, or connection, or something, because it is a functional patch.

Maybe the crash log thing should be extended to patch fail logging.

I'm REALLY getting annoyed with this. This will be the THIRD time I'll have to re-download the entire client.
I'm getting "SHA1 Error" on loads of different files. I've tried the Repair Tool and the Manual Patch with no joy.

Does anyone else have any solutions before I start downloading everything all over again? Please!

Just out of curiosity...

Did you guys eventually run the "CleanMyMac" app?

We have just received a report that this app appears to remove "non english" files from applications in order to free up hard drive space, which would explain why the patcher would complain about them not being in proper shape, and why this happens on every patch if this is run regularly.

Yes, I use that application too. It looks like you may be onto something there.

If you're really pro. Use some recovery program to re-create those files in their original state and location instead of downloading everything over again.
Seems like that App is the source?
If you get it fixed try run the app and see if it does it again (take backup of the files you need though).

Ya i do use that app, so what would be the solution to fix this? I presume reinstall eve.

To fix it now, yes, reinstalling would be the way to go if the generic patcher fails (try the generic patcher first if you haven't done so already, though). If you have a backup where those files are still present, then restoring that backup is most likely much faster and save you some bandwidth (as mentioned by Ammzi earlier).

To prevent this from happening again, the CleanMyMac app has some sort of application ignore list if I understand it correctly, where you can specify which applications it should leave alone. I'm sorry that I can't more specific than this, as I don't have any first hand experience with this program at all. But according to their user manual:

"Click on the 'Ignore List" button in the info-tab of the Universal Binaries or System Junk modules and use the corresponding buttons to add or remove an application. You can also drag and drop an application directly onto the 'Ignore List' Button."

You can also share this ignore list, which then seems to be forwarded to the CleanMyMac developers so they can include it as default in future versions, so that may help future users to not run into this again. I will check if there is anything we can do in this regard from our end.

If you are using other tools than CleanMyMac that provide similar functions, then those may have a similar ignore list.

Had this same problem months ago when Incarna was released, and it was because CleanMyMac removed the language files. Do you kiddies have a copy in Time Machine? If you say you aren't using any backup software, I will find you and do bad things to your frozen corpse. Restore from time machine to before you "cleaned" EVE, and make sure you add EVE as an exception to CleanMyMac.

Whomever said the Generic Patcher is the "manual download," it isn't. They are 2 different things, completely. The manual patch download just adds the files CCP knows need to be added to get your client up to the current release version, the generic patcher verifies that your client has all the necessary chunks, and if it doesn't, downloads what is missing.

As it seems to be confused easily, the Generic Patcher for Incarna 1.1.2 can be found at this link:
http://content.eveonline.com//mac/evepremiumpatch304168-mac.tgz

And as Krispy Dingo already pointed out, it's not the same thing as the manual patch, albeit both are available from the same patch download page (with the Generic Patcher Link to the current version being in the last paragraph).

Another small update on this. We are trying to get in touch with the developers of tools such as CleanMyMac to try and resolve this for the future.

If you are using other tools with the same effect (removing additional language files or cleaning up the Mac in General) and have been running into those problems while patching EVE, then please let us know the name of that application so we can look into that as well.

Thanks for all the replies and tips....but whole client was DLed anyway.

Karidor, I believe that your solution might be the correct one. Am using MacKeeper though and wonder if it is doing the same thing by removing language packages?
Yes it is but there is no ignore list. I can however choose for the app not to remove those files once the check has been completed...now I just need to remember that every time :)

Take care all.
