No ****, this is what could be the biggest issue for Sony. It looks like a hack they will have severe trouble in removing, and now it looks like PSN is truly screwed.

How will the affect Dust?

well dust is free so it shouldn't affect it?

It relies on micro-transactions though, so it may be less popular if faced with competition from a ton free games in the case of a widespread hack.

micro transactions only if you choose. You can purchase items with ISK. right?

Yeah, I think so. I was just thinking about non-EVE non-Dust players.

If they all of a sudden have a ton of free games to choose from, Dust would look less appealing.

Hmmm ... All I foresee in Venezuela is a new spike in pirated games, you can even chip Wiis, PS1/2 and almost anything that can boot up and load something down there for like 50$ in any store in the street. Megacorps need to understand the future is not a place where everyone is a consumer that eats processed goods , digests them and then moves on to something new.

People actually want fixed spots in the net they can make their own. Hacks like these ones and new gen consoles will open the door for a true liberation of gaming.

Gaming is too segmented as it is, and damn evil greedy companies (that go WAY BEYOND PROFIT) just want to further segregate the market so its easier to control. If it were up to them PC gaming would be dead 100% as they keep making remakes of the same WW2 shooter over and over with better looking skins and more nekkid girls.

Hope they hack them to hell in a way they actually realize they doing everything WRONG.

Gone are the days when by pirating a game you did hurt the developer and his family living in the garage, these days developers jut get a fixed wage plus a random made up formula for earnings, most of the profit goes to the big guys and temporary programmers that just repeat lines of code without sometimes actually understanding or even remotely caring for what they do.

AAA games are the Blockbuster movies of today, they all need to die, they stifle innovation and creativity and just remake the same old monomyths over and over ad nauseam.

The Gaming Industry needs a big shakeup.

So you mean now a PS3 is finally again a bit closer to a (fairly weak) PC ?
I don't really see what the big fuss is about.
I mean, other than this hopefully accelerating plans for Sony to finally release the damn PS4 (and do a better job at securing their own firmware this time, or at least lowering the time between PS version releases).

P.S. Then again, why do I care ? I never owned any console, just PCs. Oh, wait, I remembered why - because ancient console hardware is keeping most PC game development behind. About damn time somebody kicked the big corp's nads into hurrying up with the cashcow milking.

P.P.S. Games relying on remote servers to operate at all are only affected if the servers are compromised. Personally, I'm all for sub-based and actually prefer freemium games instead anyway. You can't hack/crack those unless you either hack/crack the servers, or if you create a server emulator (but that only makes you play in a tiny alternate universe corner, so, meh, who cares, no thanks). If anything, THAT is the future of gaming, and THAT is what most game companies should focus on.
That, and cheap, reliable internet access for the entire globe, but that's not something game companies do, but they sure as heck can lobby for.

That's still not news though, that's a well-established and evidenced fact.

Some people like to offline game though...

As someone that spent 8 months out to sea, I feared accidentally hitting the "Go online" button on Steam. Thankfully, Valve fixed it, but ironically even single player Portal 2 requires online access.

I understand where the publishers are coming from, I just wish there was better middle ground.

Well, that, or take HALF of the military spending of the USA (nearly half of all the world combined), China (still only a fifth of the one of the USA) and also Russia (less than half that of China), UK, France, Japan (each only a bit less than Russia) - that all sums up to about 555 billion USD per year - and use that cash to finance a swarm of new communications satellites, well over a THOUSAND of them each year (more like three thousand if the whole process is streamlined, and with an estimated lifetime of 15-20 years, this means you could have 50k-60k of them in orbit on a permanent basis), and that includes manufacture, launch cost, main ground link construction and maintenance. Since there's so many of them, if they all work in a single network, they could easily be placed in non-geosynchronous orbits and still offer perfect coverage of the entire freaking planet. If it becomes less popular to people who hack, are we really losing anything by losing them?

Answer is no, in case you hadn't guessed.

Also: No hacking my Dust please. It already gives me the impression that people are using aimbots*, (and I'm not sure they aren't), and I'd rather not have real ones, assuming they aren't already there.

I have yet to interface fully with my controller, (not sure I ever will), though, so it could just be me. Sadly, I have trouble pin-pointing a target that is doing anything other than walking in a straight line or standing still. Floppy paddle problem.

oops.. too far

..no.. not quite enough..

..quit moving you freakin' parasite. Evil

Problem common to all console FPS using a controller afaik. Dancing monkeys are hard to hit. Fact is though, I run, jump, strafe, and generally get shot like I'm standing still by some players. Other players have as much fun hitting me as I do them, and sometimes they're just good.

Watching somebody facing 90 degrees to you with a sniper rifle while drawing a bead on them and having them turn 90 with an assault rifle, fire, and kill you in one shot makes you wonder though. Especially when it happen in less than a second and you are 500 yards off.

That would be weird in any game, and most people would have 'hack' as their first thought if it happened to them. Only ever happened once that I recall, but not likely to forget it either.

I keep thinking I need a Move or whatever it's called, and have considered my keyboard and mouse more than a few times, but I'm either hesitating to spend the money, (not cheap), or unwilling to use a wired keyboard and mouse on a coffee table to play a game. Also, cameras on PC/Console bother me.

Correct me if i am wrong, but wasn't the xbox 360 already hacked not long after its release? Out of all game consules, the ps3 was the most difficult to hack. It is a miracle that it is only now (after 6 years) they finaly managed to hack it.
