Hi Guys,

So I have been browsing the fourms regarding null sec ratting and anomalies/complexes and though there is a lot of information I was still a bit confused and wanted to get some help...

I am a fairly new toon 12 Mil SP and Mainly Minimitar Pilot with projectile skills and some Missile skills.

I took my vagabond into null last week to rat and it was slow as hell and before logging off I hit system scanner and found an anomolie I am guessing but without thinking warped to it only to be scrammed and webbed by 6-7 drone npcs considering there were a crap load of npcs there... I couldn’t do any damage to the drones and eventually after 5 minutes of constant damage got popped.

So my questions:

1: Is there anyway to do these anomalies solo?
2: Is there a Minimitar ship that I should be using for ratting?
3: Considering I don’t have that much SP should I be training more skills before trying to rat and run anomalies in null sec?
4: Can ratting asteroid belts on its own be a good way to make isk?

P.S Looking for any advise to make decent isk in null I have saved up some isk to fit a decent ship if required.

Sorry for the long post :(
Cheers.

Complexes are either static (shown on the map and overview) or have to be scanned down using scanner probes, which also means you have to fit scanner probe launcher, which means you loose one high slot and some cpu and some pg. When you scan for complexes, this is called Exploration. I would keep this category separate from ratting.

Anomalies don't have gates. Bring the biggest ship you can to do them or use proven fit on a smaller ship. Next time take the name of the anomaly and google it instead of warping to it like a dumbass.

When I go rat, I bring a rifter or t1 cruiser. I only kill bs rats in the belts. For low sec anomalies, t2 cruiser or t1 bc should be good.

Since you are only 12m sp, fit your ship for the specific rat type you are fighting. if in angel space, put resists mostly for explosive / kinetic and make sure you are doing explosive damage. If sanshas fit for defense vs em/therm and hit with em. so on and so forth.

Google is your friend on anoms and plexes so you can get a clue what you are jumping into. I made well over 1b isk in 0.0 ninja ratting to raise my sec from -10 back to above -2, and that was without really trying that hard or getting crap for faction spawns, and it only took a week or 2 of very minimum playtime in the evenings.

When I lived in 0.0, you can make multiple billions depending on how safe your space is, luck of the draws, and what you fly.

A vagabond is probably the weakest ratting ship you could have taken tbh. Once its webbed down by rats its just an expensive cruiser. It can belt rat but is slow as you found and would only be able to do the very easiest of anoms. What you could use depends on rat type really, against laser using rats an armour tanked munin is fantastic, but its weak against angels and guristas. Hurricane and cyclone can both do belt ratting very well but are not that hot at anoms (well you could probably get a good enough tank out of a cyclone). So for anoms you really want a bs.

Most important is to fit the rat specific tank and do te raight damage.

For belts use artillery hurricane. DPS is very similar to autocannon Vagabond, but tank is much better and you don't have to chase your targets as you will shoot from 40km range. My average income from belt rats was about 25mil per hour with 720mm artillery cane. Also if you ratting in the system alone, chain your belts. Everytime you clear the belt, new rats will appear and theyr composition will be different. Kill them until you get good bounty BSs. Than kill only BS and leave frigates alive. In time it will respawn and rats composition will be the same so you have again high bounty BS back.

If you want to do more anomalies, use artillery maelstrom. Very good tank and long range guns makes it ideal for null sec as you can be aligned to station in case enemies show up. You can easily solo DEDs up to DED 8/10. DED 9/10 and 10/10 is also doable, but it will take you lot of time if you fly solo.

Forget numbers, play with ideas, look for solutions.

thanks for the feedback guys.. I will give a arty cane a shot and then fit a BS to see if I can manage some of these anomolies solo..

Defenitly learnt my lesson... Google the site before warping in :)
