Quick question: whats the difference? Specifically, I need a corporate hanger for remote BP research. Just curious if moving the corp HQ to a station will do just that or if I need to rent an office to so.

Thanks!

You will need to rent an office.

Corp HQ is the station at which the corp was formed, IIRC.

It is, plus unless it was changed with the new inventory system you can move your HQ to any system you have an office in.

You could always move your HQ to your offices.

You can set medical clones to your HQ, even if you don't have an office there.

Thanks for the replies. Bonus question: do corp standings, or pilot standings of CEO affect office rent?

No.

What determines rental fee?

And I'm pretty sure our corp HQ is Jita 4-4, and we never had an office there. You can move your HQ anywhere.

Ahah, thank you. There are NO other factors that go into multiplying base rate though? Seems hub systems like Rens or Dodixie have much bigger rents than backwoods stations, regardless of free spots left.

HQ is just your corp's public address.

Not quite. You can customize hangar access at your HQ to be different than the settings that apply to all other stations. This becomes an important factor when managing who can access what assets.

I am fairly sure you can only move your HQ to a station in which you have an office. (Except for when you first found your corp and have no offices, it will be in the station where you formed your corp.) This might have been changed in one patch or another.

I am certain that you can not move your HQ to a 0.0 system, you get an error about the system being contestable.

I believe this is the result of some stations having no vacancy for a very long time.

It is a little confusing as you will never not be able to rent a office a a station. At least I have never seen a station that says sorry no offices available.
Even Jita 4-4 which has had no vacancies for ages will let you rent an office at an insanely high price. I believe once the station is at what is considered "full" the price goes up drastically for each office that is rented. This is how the offices in trade hubs have gotten so high. As long as someone is willing to pay the price they will "make room".
Perhaps this is the answer, at least for RPers, the high cost is related to the costs of adding office space to an already full station.

Your HQ is first determined by where you create the corp. You can then move the HQ to any office you have at any time. Once moved though, you can't move it back to the original start location if you don't have an office there.

Once the office slots hit zero, it will quote you a price, but not let you rent.

There is definitely only a limited number of offices in 0.0 outposts. I'm not sure about empire.
