Contract items from custom offices.

It would be nice if you could contract your items from your PI custom office to another toon to collect and move about for you.

I have three toons that are doing PI, one toon has the skills to use a large ship, the others are going to have to do the skill training to use a industrial ship with the fitting for large cargo hold.

What I think would be nice is if the other two toons could contract the PI items from their custom offices to the hauler toon without having to take the minerals to the station first. This will reduce all the trips needed to and from the custom office and stations.
It does not remove having to go to the custom office but reduces the frequency and time spent going back and forth.

I searched the forums using the subject line but found nothing, has anyone one else talked about this before or think its a good/bad idea?

For me, its an option that would help until I get the skills on my other toons to carry the items. It has really been a long run on the PI side. Getting three toons to do PI and haul will take up around two months worth of skill training.

Thoughts?

This would be very comfortable. Although skills for mammoth are easy and fast to get so not much harm is done by training it.

Getting the skills for a bestower takes 8h only and you can pick up the PI easily in that.

However, if you don't want to 'waste' time on the alts, then i used to fly there in a rookie ship, jettison 10 of the items from the customs office and move all the other items from the customs office into the can. The hauler then just warped to the customs office, picked up his own goods and emptied the can at the same time.

Over time, it got quite... tedious so just skilled for a bestower instead on the alt.

The "problem" would be a different one. You could contract PI items in Wormholes and can do remote PI on 0.0 planets without ever going into the WH once again, because your alt / corpmates can do the hauling stuff for you.

The skills for the ships is not that much of a problem, time consuming to wait for the skills but, looking at the industrial ships for a fit of 20k m3 will take a week for the Mammoth and for a 30k m3 fit on the Iteron mkV 20+ days.
That is the size of ship I need to minimise my runs between station and custom office.

I understand this is Eve, and skill training in real time is a part of the game, which I am a big fan of. But having to have my three toons skill train for hauler ships to move the items around is a little frustrating when I could just contract the items from their Custom office to my hauler toon to move around would be more realistic as it would be an option in RL. Instead of my toons going out, jet canning from the custom office and doing a dozen jumps back and forth with my hauler toon.

My opinion anyway, if the reason for not having it is to make PI a dedicated part of playing the game, like mining or PVP then ok great, but I only get a few hours to game a week due to RL and it would be nice to have one toon doing the PI and the other two can be in the belt mining. As thats the whole reason I play this game, to create my industrial world Big smile as I find it fun, atm its a bit of a chore and will be until I get these ship skill up.

doing PI where you mine or vice versa could be an option. Depending on what you are doing more often.

Why not allow the owners of Customs Offices to rent storage space akin to a Corp Office in stations? I would imagine they would be much more limited than empire station office space and they would ease logistics for corporations heavily involved in PI.

That would be handy, you could then contract the items in storage to a hauler toon to collect.
Say you have four toons doing PI, six planets each, either on individual planets or some on the same planet. having them all contracted in the custom offices so when the hauler arrives they just accept the contracts, collects the items and shoots off again to the next custom office. I think it would cut the time down quite alot compared to your hauler toon go out to the custom office with the PI toon, transfer the items from the custom office to the PI toon, jet can the items so the hauler can pick up.

I know the custom office is created just to be a storage container, but to me I think it would not be unreasonable that the custom office would have a department in it, and where a ship would rock up the dept then checks the paper work for the contract which has been assigned to the hauler from the PI toon, the dept then sign off and approve everything and the hauler takes the items.

There are just too many problems with contracting from a POCO as many people have all ready posted. The biggest issue as a few has all ready posted is that you could basically setup your planets once in a WH, Null, Low, etc. etc and then never have to go back to the location except with one character. This would remove all risk/reward with the more risky parts of space and would ruin PI prices.

The whole process of having to collect PI, haul, importing/exporting etc. etc. are some of the main factors of what the prices currently are and are as important as demand. By making it so anyone can setup 10 characters in a wormhole or null and then siimply having your 1 character able to manage all the pi materials would simply make PI collecting / selling far too easy and would ruin the market.

Best thing to do is to simply do the 7 days of training to a mammoth + T2 expanded cargoholds + cargohold optimizations on all your accounts and enjoy the descent prices you can get for your mats.

True, I do see what you are saying with there only being one toon collecting the items and the risk vs reward being a factor. But at present with two of the toons I have doing PI that have an Itty V with 30km3 each, there is only one ship in space going to collect there own items.

With what I propose on the risk vs reward is that a custom office holds 30km3, say you have to go to 6 of them in the system with the itty V with 30km3 that's 6 jumps being exposed to reds if you are in low or null, the main risk there is time in space, or

You could do one round trip in a Charon or Orca spend less time exposed but risk your billion isk ship.

There is risk either way and if you want to risk the big shiny to save time it should be an option.

I think if someone is going to spend the time to create three accounts and have each accounts three toons doing PI, waiting three months for the skill training to finish for nine toons to do PI they should be allowed to contract the items to a hauler. You still have to add on top of that the skill training required for the hauler, being 30 days for a Charon, so a lot of time spent getting to do PI without having even started your mass production of items. Then you have the time spent doing PI, resetting extractors etc etc.. This is all while you can not play any other part of Eve as you are skill training PI.

The market affect you mentioned I can not comment on. Weather it would lower prices and such as I have not played long enough yet to gauge the market. But what would be the gain from concentrating on PI with three accounts compared to say three accounts mining or missioning or any other part of eve over the three month period?.. Are they all relatively the same isk gain over that period of time or is PI the main ISK maker?.. I realize you could have three toons making isk at the same time in one account.

You need to be in space in the system the planet is in to move stuff from the launch pad to the customs office. So that would not work.

Wouldn't you have to go the that specific system to get the mats from the launchpad to the POCO, even with contracting from POCOs enabled? edit: 10 seconds too slow, curse you bugsy :P

While I agree that training a mammoth is well worth the effort.

The exploit mentioned about setting up PI in a wormhole and not having to ever go back in will not work.

As I already said, you need to be in space in the system the planet is in, to move stuff from the launchpad to the customs office. You can restart extractors and factories remotely but you can not move stuff to the customs office.

The customs office hanger is set up the same a your personal hanger in a station. If you could contract the goods from there it would simply appear in the personal hanger of the player accepting the contract at that same customs office. Just as contracting stuff in a station it appears in the receiving characters personal hanger in that same station. No need for corporate hangers in a customs office, although that would be a very nice feature.

I believe this would work well.

I feel that the ability to contract items from the Customs Offices should be a right only for those willing to pay for it through the renting of a Corporate Office in the Customs Office.

That's not what this is about. My alts have Indys.
It's about having the option to contract your PI mats from the custom office so one toon can collect them. As written above there are reasons for and against this idea.

I go back and forth on this idea.

I would like a way for more people to collaborate on PI, and work together. I personally think having corp hanger space at the customs offices is a good idea.
If only for the reason that people would work together more and create larger chains.

Yes PI would probably fall in value, but the current levels are way way above the old NPC trade goods levels that existed prior to PI.
So the level would go down and help stabilize the inflationary pressures we have seen.

TYVM for the endorsement, I am sure that CCP could do it fairly easily too.

EDIT: For clairity, I don't feel that there should be as many Offices in Customs Offices as there are in Stations (maybe a cap of 10 Corporate Offices per Customs Office). I also am of the opinion that the Corporate Offices in the Customs Offices should be limited in size, perhaps comparable to a Station Container.
