Greetings all -

New Eve pilot here and I must say I am having a great time.

Now that the pleasantries are complete, I will move on to my question.

What is the deal with local channel spam? I am not talking about people being total idiots and making asses out of themselves. I am talking about spam chat bots more than likely. Is this something that CCP allows?

I did not really notice it until I finally got to the infamous 4-4 , docked and AFKed for an hour and came back and noticed there were the same jackasses spamming the same ridiculous scams on queue. (sidenote: does anyone ever fall for this Roll) I guess I was expecting something slightly different when I got there.

Perhaps a forum ninja can enlighten me so i can take some time to adjust my expecto-mentalitometer?

I did a half way decent search for an answer but no luck, but I have been wanting to post something anyway.

Yeah.

I'm not exactly what you mean by 'spam chat bots'. If you mean the multitudes of people posting contracts, items, scams (which are legal in eve) etc in jita local, you should understand that there is no other local like jita.

Also to your side note, yes, people do fall for scams, otherwise pilots wouldn't waste their time trying Cool. It's actually very good income for young pilots if you're good at paying attention to what scams you see in jita local and work one of your own, as it requires no skills/isk/ships, just your brain.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

By "Chat Spam Bots" I mean folks that are running a macro that automatically post stuff to local chat. I hope they are bots/macros because the thought of someone posting the same thing every 20s for 4 straight hours makes me uncomfortable for them.

I really do dig some of the intelligent scams; there are truly some creative folks out there. But, I was talking more on the lines of the: "I will sell you 1 tritanium for 1 billion isk" scams. I guess it is something I will just have to filter out on my own.

Running macros to post messages to local is not allowed. In fact, running a macro to automate any form of game play is also not allowed. On top of that, spamming a channel is not allowed either, even if you do it by hand. We recommend sending as petition to the "harassment" category whenever you see someone actually spamming.

Yes,

Any game that has a place of greatest trade will have people who spam and some who use illegal programs to spam.

Yes, people do fall for it, all the time. Especially new players, so be careful with you marketing until ur a little more experienced.

Overall, don't expect Jita to be this center of warm wishing, honest, hard working traders. Bunch of thieves mostly.

My policy with trade is....... The louder the person is that is selling, the more of a liar he is.

Hope this helps. good luck.

Please define spam. Is a corp recruitment ad sent once per week in each local system without repeats spam? I sure hope not... my first corp would never have happened when recruitment was limited to a channel a region office and forums... and did not actually reach the majority of eve players like current ads do. Or would it only be spam if it repeated itself? What about contracts? 3rp party apps? Is everyone in jita local guilty?

What rocks are the most isk per hour to mine? Which of your mission loot is worth more refined than sold? What blue prints make the most proffit? Answers: https://eve-industrialist.com/ Never sell an item for less than its mineral costs again!

One scammer told me once in jita that GM told him that it is OK to repeat same contract/text/whatever in local once every minute or after 3 or 5 (I don't remember which) other posts in local.

I havn't confirmed this since it's not relevant to my activities in EVE.

I recommend you get your Game Masterly ass to Jita system and observe local for 15-20 minutes. You will see lots of repeated messages.

This is not something where you need to rely on us players to report individual instances. We're telling you about the one places where it happens, consistently and on a massive scale. Go there. Observe. Take out your banhammer and begin swinging it.
