I just bought a pilot from the pilot bazaar ...my question is can we do a name change plz or are we allowed one. because some ppl really know how to put some dumb a-- names on some pilots.

You can't change a name, but you can change capitalization of a letter in it with a petition. (lower case letter to upper case or vice-versa).

The other options are biomassing and starting again, or not buying characters from the bazaar if you don't like the name.

Some people ruin perfectly good pilots with a name like "BOB 12309" it's a shame.

OP, if it isn't transferred yet you can fill up all your character slots and demand a refund.

They should delete all unused toons that have been inactive for a longtime... just to get some fresh decent names back into the system.

Typically, the only way you can change your name is if it breaches the naming policy that is in place by being offensive or otherwise naughty or nasty.

The best thing to do is file a petition under the "Character Names" subcategory in "Rules and Policies" and see where you stand with regards to being permitted to change.

However, I will stress that character names are only ever changed in exceptional circumstances, so you're probably out of luck.

Nice to see a CCP response.
I for one am glad that this is the stance that CCP are taking on namechanging.

Allowing namechanges would be bad for the game.

so if I don't like my name, all I have to do is put it in urbandictionary as an offensive word, propagate that through social networks and after years of doing that, I might get renamed by a GM?

Mine was a minor change, but i did this. They were very helpful and capitalised (not sure if thats the right term) my name for me.

EDIT: I still can't believe i have a char named Maj0r Bums0re Lol

Obviously you are stuck there as your name does not look like somehow offensive or nasty. :(

I'm also astonished about which names are choosen by some other people, and think silently "what a bummer!"
But on the other hand it's *their* problem, not mine. Maybe they chossed it in order to not being contacted/annoyed by others?

You can find the EVE Online naming policy here:

As Falcon says, we generally do not give exceptions to this policy. The name you pick stays with your character.

Known exception is when you have just made a character and made an unfortunate typo and petition it immediately. This only applies to typos and issues with upper/lower case characters. As per the naming policy, this applies to alliance and corporation names as well. No requests are guaranteed to be granted.
Also if your character name is offensive in some way you can petition to have it changed, no disciplinary actions are taken against players that report themselves. Again, no requests are guaranteed to be granted.
