Idea to limit Bot mining giving players more control. Ice and ore.

I would like to see CCP allow a mining barge to park in the mining laser beam of another miner and steal his cycle for that beam at the completion of that cycle. In cases of multiple ships in the beam the closest ship to the roid gets the theft of that cycle.
IE. At the end of the cycle that load of ore or ice ends up on the destination ship or an interception ship which ever is closer to the roid and in the mining laser beam.

What that means is you can steal the mining cycle from any bot miner by sitting in his beam. You get your mining amount plus any that you steal from the bot. Of course when you steal from a bot that is not moving you become fixed as well and then someone could steal from you as well unless you move.

How to stop this theft. Just move your ship so your beam clears the thief's ship at the end of the cycle when the ship loads that cycle. Easy enough for any miner paying attention.

Could it be abused? Not really as each cycle of every mining laser is accounted for. Just which ships gets that load is in question.
Could multiple alts game this system? Maybe so far as ships with larger ore bays intercept beams from hulks which mine faster.
Still the player would need to operate extra ships using this method. And while he is not looking, ie while he is flying back to station to unload, someone else could be stealing his cycles. Players running multibox would be hard pressed keeping all their ships clear of interception just as bots would. So yes and no being able to game this system. I think it would equal out in the end.

Does it hurt CCP? Do not think so as CCP already bans bots. This would allow players to better police bots on their own.

There would be incentive also to use mods on barges to make them more nimble for use in this theft. Which would offset tank ability and max yield mining ability. Interesting mix.

bot sets ship to orbit roid its targetting and makes this useless.

covetors and hulks having their beams deliberately inercepted by alts in haulers and retrievers/macks would probably be exploited the hell out of.

ppl getting big ass ships and sitting them close to roids others are trying to mine would be a good way to grief miners by making them fly all the way around u, until u move in their way again.

creating complex mechanics that try to figure out whether a ship is intercepting a mining beam or not and multiplying it by the thousands of miners per day would put significant strain on the server.

this is generally a bad idea

In my 6 months of playing I have never seen another player orbit a roid or ice.

I only orbited a few times myself. You get so hung up on other roids and ice that nobody does it ever.

At the very least this idea would make you orbit and that requires more attention itself.

Orbit prevents you from gaming the system with an alt as well.
