Just wondering if there are certain benefits to creative/fiction writing in EVE. I really enjoy the way this games is setup as it allows for almost total immersion in your character and would like to capitalize on that but would it be for anything other than personal satisfaction?

Personal satisfaction, fame, possibly ISK ingame, or whatever else you make of it.

The only forbidden thing is RL monetization, because Eve lore is copyrighted/protected.

Cool, thanks! Definitely not intending RL currency but notability and in game isk are very intriguing.

There is an ISD team called Mercury who's goal is to just write fiction. Might want to look into do that if you are interested.

Mercury is a small team of volunteers that have specialized in everything fiction. Our job is to work with the CCP storyline department in the creation of fiction in many shapes or forms, be it news articles, descriptions, full fictional documents or whatever else is needed. Next to that we also have the chance to tell our own stories set in the world of EVE.

We are looking for volunteers that have passion for the background story of EVE and a very detailed knowledge of it. Creativity as well as very good English and writing skills are an absolute must. You have to be able to write under a deadline and still maintain a high level of activity and a constant output of fiction. If you feel that you have what we are looking for then please apply now.

Thanks all!

I appreciate the feedback. I do actually have a corp that I'm loyal to but I am definitely interested in writing fiction within the game possibly for my own corp.

If you write well and manage to engage the audience, you may even get Billions in donations.
INNOMINATE NIGHTMARE did it a few years ago, writing about the adventures of a noob in null sec.
Then there was Tarminic, who wrote absolutely awesome forum rants and whines on demand.
James 315 is doing it currently, writing about his miner bumping adventures.

As you can see, the actual subject doesn't have to be serious, style is more important.

I rewrite my bio during boring parts of fleet ops. I wish it allowed more than 1000 characters though. Please change this CCP.

Mittani is another good example; he started out as a notable Goonswarm alliance member writing up forum propaganda, graduated to Ten Ton Hammer articles about espionage, and now has his own website which does pretty well, I believe. He landed an interview with the Sony Online Entertainment CEO recently, which seemed pretty big to me.

Writing in EVE can definitely take you places. Smile

P.S. We have an "EVE Fiction" forum section too where you can share. There's lots of fiction discussion here too: Backstage forums.

PVP, via Contract descriptions. Pirate

Edit:

& lets not forget about the Market Discussions forum area if you have a creative bent for fictional financial advice and the earning of others' confidence! Big smile

Lordy Lordy Lordy! There is a name from the past 'Innominate Nightmare'. What happened to the guy. I have a memory that he sort of fizzled out after a lot of people said that he was just scamming and making it all up. But whatever, he wrote a damned fine tale, and if it was infact a scam, then the guy should still be credited with running one of the best and most off the wall, and entertaining scams in Eve's history

He does it so well, many people don't even see the RP. It just feels so natural, so in the context of Eve itself, and so immersive (you can't not be part of it once it touches you).

It's genius.

The best and most entertaining scam in Eve's history was of course Nightfreeze's The Great Scam, a tale from the early history of EVE.

(INNOMINATE NIGHTMARE btw did not scam; he did sell shares for isk but made it clear that buyers should not expect any )return.

This is a fictional account. You may see this as a good or bad thing.

It'd be worth checking out the Eve Blog Pack, most of the writers write for the sheer joy of doing it and they do it well. They cover everything from ingame mechanics to game related fiction.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
