hey guys,

i was in 0.8 mining with my secure containers when they where all looted and stolen by another player which will remain nameless. I understand the 0.7 sec requirement to ancor but why doesnt the dam password work when someone else trys to loot??? Is there a way i can report it and make his rating drop so i can put a bount on his head?? what can i do? my current superduper newb mining setup is a iteron III drops containers and my catylist mines with 3x miner II, then iteron comes and empties. please help!

Is there something i can do about the player?

what is a more secure way to mine as a poor newb?

thanks in advance.

I feel your pain. I am new myself and I am overly cautious.

Think about what you would do if it were on the streets of NYC and ...do that.

As far as the other player....A wise man once said..."If you can't please the little miss, don't blame it on the guy who can."

^ This.

When in 0.8 a container can't be anchored and thus any player can open it or just scoop the entire container.

What you can do to make mining safer:

- 0.7 system and anchor those containers.
- Get a retriever and mine without a container
- Get a 2nd account in an Orca and be a big flying container.

What you can do to the player who stole your container:

- Nothing. Shrug it off and continue playing, in couple of months you will laugh about it and remember the fuzz you tried to make about it back then.

- Hunt him down, suicide gank him if you want too. If he is in player corp wardec him or let someone wardec him for you.

- .... (insert more ideas you can come with here, it's a sandbox)...

Personally, I would suggest the do nothing idea...

As always, great info from you guys.

The "wardec" needs some explanation though, if one would be so inclined to oblige.

OP can't wardec as he's in an NPC corp, there are however plenty of mercenaries willing to do it for recompense.

@ Jesuis, a wardec gives a corp the right to destroy another specific corporation without concord intervention in hisec.

It's basically a bribe for concord to turn a blind eye to ganks inflicted on a specific corp.

Hey thanks for the info guys all great advice.

I thought the password would still work for the container even though it wasnt ancored but anyways i guess they could still come and scoop it up but they still shouldnt be able to open it Blink Oh well, another lesson learned.

thanks again !

Firstly, welcome to EVE. Smile

As a thief I have to disappoint you in that assumption. They will drop the container in their station hangar and hit "repackage", making the password disappear and the contents are released in the station hangar.

As for suggestions, I'm with J'Poll on this one. There'll be far more complex, challenging and problematic things to experience in EVE. Big smile Losing such a minor thing as a container will look like a forgotten incident in about a month from now. Oh, and who says you cannot simply dabble into a bit of thievery yourself...? Blink

Or get an alt recruited into the offender's corporation, then use your privileges as a corp mate to blow up his ship and pod over and over again.

Why are you only using 3 mining lasers on a destroyer with 8 highslots?

EDIT : If ur gonna say it has guns on it too just dont even start typing Straight Go put more mining lasers on it.

CPU and capacitor limitations if I'm not mistaken. With whatever skills and fitting tricks it would never be possible to have 8 miners on it.
Besides you mention high slots, whereas it is gun slots that count.

Agree, likely it's his fitting abilities (CPU, PG, Cap) that is the limit

btw, all destroyers have at least 7 if not 8 turret slots:

Cormorant (Caldari) and Thrasher (Minmatar) - 8 highslots with 7 Gun hardpoints
Coercer (Amarr) and Catalyst (Gallente) - 8 highslots with 8 Gun hardpoints.

So try to fit as many miners as you can, or move into mining bonused ships (frigate - though not reliable anymore soon, cruisers, mining barges, exhumers).

1st, if the cans were not anchored, they are not secure
2nd, you need to rethink how you are mining. You can get more from the bonused mining frigates than you will from a catalyst. And if you have taken the time to train into a hauler and a destroyer to mine, why not a mining barge? Or using the mining frigates that have a bonus for mining?

FC, what do?

i can say this, war decing them will go bad for you... pvp corps will one sidedly sodomise a mining corp that tries to dec them...

I like how no-one suggested "join a mining corp."

Seriously. 90% of new EVE-players' problems can be solved by joining a corp. There's a reason it's called an MMO ;)

Yep, it means there are multiple players involved - nothing to do with corps.

Har, har Lol

The point, of course, is to leverage that "Multiplayer" part of "MMO" to your advantage. The best way for a new player to learn about the varied and sundry dangers of EVE is to learn from other people. And other people can also help to reduce his chosen career's task load (mining and hauling, in this example). And then there's the social aspect of flying with other people, which is just good fun.

The simplest way to ensure the new player has other people around him in EVE is for him to be in an active corp.

It shouldn't be that surprising - we at Suddenly Ninjas are always bringing the multiplayer experience to people who can't find it for themselves :)
