So,

There are now two companies who wish to sell you a 21:9 ratio 29 inch monitor.

In the Blue corner, we have DELL and their U2913WM ultrasharp monitor.

And in the Red corner, with have LG and their EA93 monitor.

Now then, IF you had to choose, which one and why?

It's hypothetical, so money should not be a part of your decision making process...

Neither. I like widescreen but 16:9 is the lowest you should go vertically. Anything other than watching movies will be very uncomfortable on such a monitor.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

The thing about Dell is that they buy parts from people who actually do R&D, then manufacture the product, then sell it to Dell. So if you are looking for best, figure out whose LCD panel Dell is using.

LG, on the other hand, does R&D, then manufacture the product, then use them in their own products or sell them to others, like to Dell.

So look at the specs side by side. See what each of those monitors has.

What? About Dell?
Dell picks a part that they need, but do not make. In this case a LCD panel. Now that they know which part they will use, they design control circuit for it and the housing. When they finalize the design, they go and make them or subcontract someone to make it for them. My main point is that for a monitor, the LCD panel is the key and Dell does not make LCD panels. Dell buys them from companies who specialize in producing LCD panels, who do the R&D.

I did a short write ups last week. LG Display was suing Samsung over some OLED patents. Samsung has some of their own people and some LG people arrested earlier this year for leaking and stealing OLED technology from Samsung to LG. These two and a few others are actual developers of display panels, they do R&D, they develop the manufacturing methods. Dell does not do any of that. Dell just buys panels, already made, ready to go.

Always been one of the selling points of Dell as it goes; their logistical strength and industry contacts.

this ^

dunno about these monitors you're talking about and how muchthey cost, but my next buy will be a bunch of 27 or 30 inches screens costing 300 $ using the same panel of the apple-dunno-the-name costing 1100 $. Google "yamakasi catleap 27 ips" or "crossover 27 ips" for the 27'' ones or "leonidas ips" for the 30'' and make your choice ;)

EvE related pros: 1 account per monitor ftw
General cons: borders are still too fat and in surround you'll notice them but there's no choice here afaik

You'll need a sli for those to run smoothly at max details ofc

Most Dell branded stuffs are usually a re-labelled product from somewhere under contract manufacture.
Their focus is to sell stuffs, not do the R&D.

Usually need to figure out who's the original manufacturer for that Dell monitor, the LCD panel may give some clues.
If this is reliable, it may actually be an LG product in disguise.

DELL mainly use LG panels these days, so I'd say that report is pretty accurate.

To my knowledge, this 21:9 ratio has not been available for desktop computers before. I know Philips canned their excellent cinema screen 21:9 ratio televisions, and Vizio have a 21:9 58inch television which is also excellent (minus the horrible remote), but for desktops - this is it.

DELL have released their monitor now.

Have they set the price too high @ £621/$700/€764 ?

Comparatively, their 27" U2711 running a 2650x1440 is £600/$999/€735 , which seems kinda strange when you look at the different pricing in different countries...probably got the tax mixed up. so corrections if needed please.

LG have not yet globally released, but deployed in Korea for roughly £400 - but they do make the panel, so...guess they can do that.
