how about this. one of you super smart people who seem know know everything about linux- why dont you work on the linux end, eh?

This implies that a lot of the linux users who habitually crawl around this forum aren't the same bunch of people who report bugs on WINE bugzilla, so that WINE devs know about EVE-specific issues, fix them from the WINE side, or even contribute code (see the IGB https patch).

Newsflash: we're the same people.

chances of ccp giving us source to there client is slim to 0... as far as fixing bugs in the wine base i have been trying to get cap quarters to work in wine it doesnt seem to be a wine issue but a dll issue with in eve itself so eather we write a ghetto patch to fix it or ccp needs to fix it on there end. Seems in windows the error is just ignored.

i was being sarcastic when i said that lol i know CCP would never give their source out, thats the point =)

naw, i knew a lot of people here posted bug reports. one of the latest wine builds had numerous bugfixes pertaining to eve. again, being cynical. though it is true the wine project could use a little more love in mimicking windows better. if they could make it act like there was an actual registry, so silly programs like gamegaurd would work (even though everyone hates it), more games could be played. which would lead to more light shed on linux, etc. which might in turn lead to more support of the linux community. but i read a great article the other day about the issues with linux, which i have to say, a lot of them are why linux support isnt really... there.

Just that hint of cynicism the world needs now and then.

or alot of programmers need to get off the dx ms kick and actually start writing decent code again... :P Oh those days when Applications were multi platform. Linux does not need to be more like windows. People need to realize that there is alternatives then ms. And the dev world doesn't just end there.

Here lets put this in perspective.

Is OpenGL open al harder to program for??

Not really.

Here Ill use this as an example its only an example i know porting Eve to linux would require more work.

I recently decided to work on Id's tech 4 Source. It was built off older binaries of linux. Yes it would run on newer systems aberlty with alot of umm unintended side effects mostly with audio.

Managed not only to fix the errors update so it boulds off newer libraries also manged to add pulse audio suppport and multi audio support so well You can actually run sound from other things without having it kill the games audio back end.

Also added FOV DOF BLOOM Tessellation to the source and built it with out knowing much about pulse itself just reading what was avable and actually applying it yes in the last few days there was some build errors with the code had to change a few things but if i can do that Without much knowledge going into it...

Point being its just a diffrent api not like something omg new...
