is a target painter useful in frigate groups?

I have a condor fit that has a utility mid slot. I can easily fit a target painter. The fit is for range, so web is of no value.

Given that this is mainly for combat against other frigates, mainly when in a fleet of frigates myself, is the target painter useful? What benefit does it provide?

I think it would help, but it depends on your skills. If you're using T1 missiles with good precision skills, it probably won't help as much but if your skills are only moderate in that area, I think the benefit would be quite valuable.

If your a frigate shooting other frigates you're already doing close to max damage unless they are going super fast. I think a different module might be put to better use in that slot like an extender or a sensor booster. Really though try it out and see if it boosts your and others dps.

Yeah, against other frigates, the Painter won't bring much effectiveness. My suggestion, for lack of any other ideas, would be a Tracking Disruptor. They reduce either tracking or range by up to ~50 unbonused. That's a huge hit to anything.

I would put a target painter on my arty Thrasher back in the day when Crows went 14km/s. It helps a weapon best up to optimal with much reduced benefits in falloff. With regards to my Thrasher - it's chances to hit improved by 20% with the TP equipped. (Silly amount of hours spent on the old tracking guide trying to figure out how to get those damn crows)

After the nano nerf a TC alone was good enough so I stopped fitting it. But to answer the OP's question. - frigate to frigate they help. Especially with everyone using Loki boosters and having 20 something sig radius.

A web can be used defensively, like if you get caught or are about to, you can overheat the web and slow them down before they land scram, which will hopefully allow you to coast back out of scram range and resume MWDing.

That said, I second the call for a TD.

Adding to the "fit a tracking disruptor instead", makes way more sense.

Here's the thing. I have great fitting and missile skills. I can fit:

3 t2 light missile launchers

Limited 1mn mwd
Pwnage tp
Meta 4 tracking disrupt
T2 warp disrupt

Dc 2
Overdrive 2

So I already have the td people suggest. Sensor booster is nice for gate camping, but limited in an actual engagement. Tank is more speed (4000+ m/s and my nav skills are only ok). So again, is the target painter worth it or double td?

Oh and I think the rigs are:
Loading bay
Poly carb
Shield em resist

Well I guess you could fit some tank. That's probably not what you want to hear, but a Condor is really a very fragile ship. It's designed for tackling, decloaking and pod killing. The trade off for that is being forced to flight up close with rockets and no tank.

I would say a web, overload it and use it defensively by overloading it to get it to 13k range then activate it on anything that tries to brawl you.
