Why would they?

There is only one question that is not being answered in terms of

1: Crimewatch 2
2: Killright mechanics
3: Bounty mechanics
4: Buffed exhumers
5: etc.

That question is, under an all-knowing "CCP is just trying to make highsec safer", "hidden agendas" and so-on-and-on-and-on-and-on-and-on....... Why would they?

If the current model is so damn successful and working. Why would they?

If it will destroy Eve as we know it. Why would they?

Put yer "it's affecting my playstyle", percieved or otherwise and answer the question with your BRAIN in gear. Why would they?

PS: No side is being taken here either, I'm just really, really curious to know why people think CCP are "too stupid" for their own sake?

TLDR: Why would they?

People need boogeymen, they need to suffer injustice, even if it is only in their mind. They would literally pull the ceiling down upon themselves, if for no other reason than to create a self-fulfilling prophecy.
A reward devoid of risk is no reward at all, but is instead a handout.

They seem to be under the belief that making hisec safer will bring more subscriptions when it really won't.

'cause CCP has made the mistake of listening to certain market-tendencies in the mmo world and attempt to apply those philosophies to eve before. If they thought they could pull off NEX store, there is also the chance they will think they can pull off making 99% of the population live in highsec cause its uber sapce and everyone makes love not war.

not saying ti would work, or that if they did it, it would last long, but theyve been known to experiment in directions they shouldnt have, then the playerbase says we told you so, then ccp has to lay off workers, etc etc etc.

honestly, wormholes here, so i couldnt give a flying **** about how safe they make highsec, i enjoy my no-local surprise pew pew i get every now and then.

anyways, yeah, people should let CCP expereriment, it will do them ebtter to try soemthing and realize it CANT work, then to just be told over and over agian it wont. If they implement a feature that enarly costs them the game, then any similar feature will throw up red flags for them, however if people just keep bitching and moaning, they will say fine, and come out with an idea thats different but similar in 6 motnhs. TL;DR let CCP make mistakes, they will elarn and grow more form them than endless forums full of bitchy.

It'll change things up in Hi-Sec a bit.

Will make criminals/pirates have to look over their shoulders a bit. This makes sense to me. Worst case it forces them to fly something they are willing to lose in Hi-Sec until the kill-rights have been used up.

Buffed mining? I'm really not that bothered that Hi-Sec miners can just afk, but making mining ships harder to pop will hopefully be better everywhere else, making mining in low/null/WH less prohibitive. Making mining 'safer' in those other areas just might (if we're lucky) lead to more targets...

I'd guess it's to increase sub numbers - to do that they need to cater to the average mmo player. Most of those players come from theme-park style mmo's where the culture is a risk-averse one with little in the way of death penalties and protection from scams / losing everything.

What they might not understand is that it's those very traits that made EvE what it is - there is / was no safety net for the stupid in it. (and space games are still after all these years somewhat of a niche market).

Why would they? Because money is a powerful motivator.

That is not to say they will get that money; they're estimating that they will.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Yeah but I'm kinda doubtful they'd go about running a multi-million business without err... doing some pretty thorough market research. They must have some numbers - if you actually believe they have an agenda - seems like they are just cinching in some loose threads to me.

(I'm actually hoping this thread draws out some genuine un-biased POV too - and I know you're just a tad angry atm so allowances are being made - go make a cup-of-tea, have a lie-down and come back on it Blink)

People posting in forums do not represent the player base as a whole. For every bitching whiner on the forums there are 50 people in the game just enjoying themselves.

Gamer forums are always a cesspit when it comes to updates. The next update is always the one that will finally kill any game. that has been true for every gamer forum ever, why wouldn't it be for EVE? EVE players are even quite tame in comparison to other comms... try reading the feedback to the upcoming Minecraft patch or the feedback for the recent update to Diablo 3 in their official forums, if you want to read some really brainmelting **** posts.

tl;dr: Who cares what some whiners say. Troll the **** out of their threads if you can garner some enjoyment from it, then move on. EVE is doing fine and it will continue to do so for quite some time.

I just went away on this and came back to it because it's an interesting point.

It's a broad stroke to make and I'd be keen if you could summarise why, I can't honestly see where a threat exists with a "safer" highsec (note: not "safe highsec" - an entirely different animal).

Yeah. Good point. I'd like to think that the Eve player base is a little more intelligent or at the very least, a bit wiser perhaps to rely on such sledging to achieve outcomes. I always have a vision of the person at the other end of the line is in fact a real person.

They're catering for everyone. I don't see what people are whining about.

The new system will (eventually when the whiners get used to it) be better for everyone, it will make PvP infinitely less frustrating. No more logi station games. The bounty system is going to pay people to blow each other up (massive massive PvP buff), and because PvPers will be able to earn money paid by others they will have to PvE less and bring less ISK into the economy and therefore reduce inflation. The bounty system will sure as hell make nullbear life more interesting. Lets face it, most of the sov alliance will have sizeable bounties on them. You'll have people flying up just for the bounties. More things to shoot at makes me happy.

The highsec bears are happy and yet all the can flippers can now take from a can and bait ANYONE in system to shoot at them, how is that a nerf? All the people who think highsec is going to become less PvP orientated just aren't thinking. People with killrights and people with suspect flags will be blowing up left right and centre, and it's going to be fantastic.
