One question: If I turn off dust bunnies chat in local, will the channel counter still show how many there are in system?

Yes, you always see the number of 'Bunnies' even though you hide them from the Member list and/or take their coloring from the chat messages.

You can however not hide the chat messages themselves from the chat channel.

That's not gonna end up well. We already have enough spam as is, and those guys will almost certainly be talking about their games nonstop. Not only will be this utter irrelevant drivel for EVE-players, it'll also break roleplayers immersion (ok, I admit I chuckled abit, but I like think this game is for more people than just me.. I admit my weakness in this regard). Especially since many MANY of them refuse to use voice chat. I mean, every PC game I play, literally, I use voice chat. But on my Xbox I blatantly refuse it. Have you ever played a console FPS? Or actually, any console game? The constant abuse and bullcrap being posted makes my forum posting looking like sweet-smelling roses in comparison..

TL;DR literally what your decision will have as effect:
* It will **** off EVE players to no end
* It will **** off Dust players to no end when they are in tradehubs and similar
* It will be non-stop abuse to no end, between the different games, if you are lucky.. there is chances either side ignore the other and just continue their own spam. But since EVE players are known to local smack, depending on where we are, chances are, Dust players will be flooded with trolling and possibly will try to do the same back.
* At best, this means that EVE players will just minimize their local so the see local count number. At best. It can be alot more dirty than that, and actually have big negative impact on both games. Let's pretend it wont, tho, for all ours sake.

You have to give us the option to filter the other games' players' chat, period. Anything else will be a disaster. And I actually believe the Dust-players will agree with me on this one.

Replying to dev blogs is like talking to a supermodel. You do your best to compliment her good looks, and give helpful suggestions that she might need to gain some weight for her own healths sake. You know at best she'll ignore you, but there's always the chance she get offended somehow and kick you in the nabs.

I read all feedback and comments, I just don't always have the ability to answer. I can however promise to follow up on your comments and see who can give you answers since the decision and reasoning of local chat being open to all, both Capsuleers and Infantry is a larger question than I alone can answer.

Sorry if you feel insulted man, that was posted in a super-cheeky way, I assumed people would reply more like this: Lol

Edit; especially since I posted it so fast after my previous posts! It would've been crazy if you actually managed to respond that fast, then I'd be mighty impressed, haha.

I wasn't insulted at all, my happy writing and sad writing are obviously too similar Big smile I was just letting you know I have to get back to you on this specific subject, but that I will still follow up on it.

The 2nd post was very good btw, I totally took it the right way and thought it was very amusing Big smile

I just wanted to say, I used this last night to turn off blink on one of my annoying-but-required channels. *\o/*

Have you considered removing the width restriction on the chat part of the channel so we can resize down to just the member list? I want the free intel of local, not the spam. Thanks.

A professional astro-bastard was not available so they sent me.

Just logged into the game and noticed the new channel icons:

Open Channel Window button is off by 1 pixel to the top, which lets it look weird.

While the new icons look very nice (I like this steel / metal iconic style), I wonder why their size is not equal.

The Channel Settings button fits inside the background highlight, but the Member List Setting is over the border by 1 pixel to the left and right. Shouldn't all the icons be equal in size and have a slight padding to the border of their "box" (their highlighted background).

Same for the black background when a button is clicked. Why not let it have the same size as the previously mentioned box? I personally think it looks off, when the icon is larger then its box.

Can you please replace the Decrease font size and Increase font size with icons that match this cool style of the new icons?

Last comment: While the Highlight my messages feature could be useful (though I honestly miss the use case behind that feature - you got one?), it would be more useful to highlight lines (or just the name) when a line contains the players name as it is typically done in IRC clients (someone else mentioned this in another thread already).

Keep up the good work!

I have to wonder if the UT III engine your using for Dust could actually replace your current engine for Eve Online. You could then merge the games, literally. Down loading the UDK tools now! http://www.unrealengine.com/udk/

+1 support for afk flag

+1 support for configurable highlighting

+1 support for custom filters, especially on Local.

I would also really like if, when I have stacked chat windows collapsed so only the title bar is displayed, the tab which is the "active" tab will still blink (if blink is set to "on") just like any "inactive" tab does when someone types in it. Otherwise, I have to manually check that one "active" tab by opening up the window which defeats the purpose of collapsing it.

TL;DR:

Not all chats consist of less than 10 characters per line, not all chats consist of 3 lines, and new ones happen often. stop meddling with what's not broken. You're making me take more time to do what I should be able to set as a default anyway.

Quote:
Before there were three icons to change how the chat messages appeared and other three icons to change the member list behavior. We felt that these were options were taking up too much space, especially considering people don't tend to change them that often.

Please tell me you're [insert string of expletives here] kidding.

I have all my chat windows in two sets of tabbed and pinned windows on the bottom of the screen, minimum height. As such, I set all my windows to compact member list text only (none of those irritating icons you people love so much). Every time I get a private chat, join a fleet, or open a new chat channel temporarily (because I don't always need to be in every channel at the same time, some only matter in some circumstances) I add it to one of the tabbed and pinned groups and with a right click and two left clicks set it to compact member list and text only. This happens often, multiple times per day, even multiple times per hour. Now I have menus to go through to promptly, while in a fight because this isn't IRC in space, tend to whatever pressing matter is at hand that warranted a private conversation, because otherwise, there is not enough room to see a reasonable amount of chat history without scrolling. The default chat window specs seem suitable for seeing one person say "lol nub" without having to scroll or have the line wrap.

Stop making things take more room and have more menus than they have to, space is at a premium for anyone without an absurdly high resolution (I run an alienware laptop with a 1440x900 resolution).

At the least, make new chat windows match the ones already on the screen and tab with them appropriately or let me set some default window behavior, perhaps via an integrated theme and theme editor.

Can we have a simple soft button on the chat tab, especially the local chat box?

Purpose of said button, press button to halt all incoming text gibberish, perhaps give it a color when activated. Press the button again to allow incoming gibberish.

I am sure you have many reasons for adding the new abilities to the chat configuration, I just don't want over 9000 retards valued customers with guns saying "Halp! I'm being pwnz0rd" In my local chat

At the moment i have to right click local and scroll down to clear smack.

Dunno if this has been addressed:

"Show text only"
"Show text with small portrait"
"Show text with big portrait"

It is a chat channel. Of course it is gonna have text!

"No portrait"
"Small portrait"
"Big portrait"

My top complaint with the new system is that there still needs to be an option in the global settings for:

- Compact member list as the default
- Show text only vs small/big portrait
- Message highlighting
- Displaying of timestamp

Then, each channel's checkbox or other channel-specific setting should be a tri-state value for "on / off / use-global".

Because EVE puts each chat channel or conversation channel into its own window, it's not as fluid as other games where you can have multiple chats going on in the same window. As a result, you tend to have 10-40 open chat windows, each with its own set of unique settings and now way to control how private chats appear by default.

This was bearable prior to the menu change, because the buttons for "show text only" were right at the top level of the UI, now they're buried inside a menu. Plus we now have more options to fiddle with such as the "Highlight" options.

Global chat settings (and the ability to toggle them on/off selectively) from the ESC menu would be fabulous. Then, any settings made in a given channel itself could override the global ones.
