I know its just a minor change, but why the hell did the correct German translation of bounty (Kopfgeld) have to be changed to Beute (plunder/loot/booty)?

Pirates and criminals dont give booty/loot/plunder.. they have a bounty on their head!

*sighs deeply*

(Its a running gag in the German channels already.. bad bad bad)

There are a few more wrong german translations...

For example Dense Veldspar now needs 0,10m³ "Lautstärke" (soundvolume)

Im sure there are more. lol. trolling ccp-translator?

We'll be grateful if you can post any odd translations in this thread, It'll be monitored.

Thanks everyone!

Oh, I guess at least for the time being you can refer to Bounty hunting as a Beute call Pirate

Beute Call ? Booty Call ? oh never mind!

Thanks for bringing this up - I have checked into those two examples (bounty and volume) and found the issue. Like Suvetar said, if you encounter more of those, then we appreciate further feedback.

As an explanation why a perfectly good translation was changed to an incorrect one: This is in fact not a translator trolling but rather a matter of strings shared between DUST and EVE. To some extent re-using strings is common practice, but in some cases like the ones you have mentioned, there should really be two separate strings because even though it is the same English word, it requires two different translations. This is of course not an excuse, so I apologize and we will resolve the issues with one of the next patches.

Beeing a dev myself... Been there, done that...

On a related note.. maybe you can ask your tech devs.. what technique do you use for database localisation? Shadow tables? Special localisation tables? :curious:

Hey there.. basically we have special localization tables for both UI strings (labels on windows and things) and dynamic data (such as inventory type names). So an inventory type stores a typeNameID which maps back into our localization system.

Then at runtime we don't actually pull directly from these tables. Instead, the localization strings are packaged up and read by a module which converts message IDs into the string you need to see (based on your client language).
