Greetings! AeolusWin(d) here, one of the captains of the ISD:STAR volunteer department. I figured this was a good time to point out that ISD is not just forum moderators. ISD Is an umbrella term covering a variety of different volunteer corporations. STAR is the Support, Training and Resources division of ISD. There are also the Forum mods, Bug Hunters, Wiki Editors and News Writers (I think that's all of them).

In STAR, we are responsible for welcoming new players to the game in the form of Meet and Greets as well as Moderating the In Game help channels. We have recently expanded our duties to seminars and show up in high security systems once and a while to say hello.

If you aren't the forum moderating type, but love the game and want to help new players (And have at least 6 months EVE experience) consider giving us a look!

Millenium Falcon > ISD simply because it can turn distance into time

It fails so hard here D:

I'm not even a super Star Wars nut and I know the proper meaning behind this.

Han Solo wasn't being a dumbass mixing time and distance, his point was that he shortened the Kessel Run route. He was able to pass through a dangerous nebula or roid belt or something that everyone else flew around for that route.

And anyway, this leading to this is a much better explanation.

That was a test of your assertiveness.
You failed.

It was an expression of correct grammar usage to emphasize what I did. I really did spent hours a day sitting in IRC chat waiting for CCP.

Perhaps you should go back to school.

I would do the whole ISD thing, but I fear I would snap on some people, which wouldn't end well. Plus I would have to fill out a form, which requires effort.

What a curious turn of phrase.

"passion" huh?

Absolutely - it's a word I don't like to throw around lightly.

I've been around this community since 2003 as a player, 2005 as a member of ISD.
In that time I've had various real-life traumas and quite a few good times too.

But throughout it all, thick and thin, this community has kept me uplifted, amazed, surprised and sometimes in genuine awe of the human spirit.

Passion. I haz it.

It surprises me that you seem so eager to squelch free expression if that's the case. A sandbox functions better if it has a set of defined rules, that's true, but on the forums of all places people like you apply the most rigid definition of "trolling"

OP, you need to have a certain amount of cognitive dissonance apparently and be willing to abandon principles for the sake of your ego.

You need to have thick skin for the insults (that are not necessary) that are thrown at you.

You only realise you life has been a waste of time, when you wake up dead.

This isn't a sandbox. It is a discussion forum. We don't take kindly to trolling as it derails threads, sometimes to the point that we can't really get it back on track, so we need to lock it. That in turn creates threads that accuse us of "squelching free expression" that get locked as they violate the rules. This is a vicious circle that is not easily broken.

We are trying, though. I am trying. I ask that you guys try as well and the first step in that trying is to stop berating the ISD's like they are some sort of pinata that you can vent frustrations on. The edit message from Amber you quote is one of them. If something regarding the ISD's appears on the forums, the posters that love to hound them descend into it like vultures to a carrion.

You have the right to post anything you want. If you do so within the rules there is no problem. Pissing and moaning about the volunteer moderators will not be tolerated anymore. There is now an official place to discuss moderation and all of us in the Community Team are watching it. Don't bash, constructively criticize. I believe these posters can so I don't understand why it doesn't happen.

I never claimed the forums were a sandbox unto itself but as part of the EVE universe, the ISD was espousing that he or she is a passionate veteran of EVE and EVE is a sandbox. A forum is a medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged, where the community comes together outside of the game. This includes ideas which you don't agree with or rub you the wrong way. That is what a forum is supposed to be, you can have yours be about whatever you want (I never claimed you can't).

For instance I'm of the opinion that the laziness of CCP staff lead to this outsourcing and it's ill-advised.

Is this opinion wrong? Maybe. Are you offended by it? Maybe, if you're easily offended by random opinions (which is a distinct possibility considering).

What I'm concerned about it why you think I shouldn't be able to express it.

There are many ways to interpret "trolling" and it seems like CCP and the ISDs have determined it means anything that they don't agree with... or isn't "friendly" enough.

At least this first response wasn't a troll. We need more of these threads.

No we don't.

What we need is more Imperial Star Destroyers.
