How is tax rate calculated?

So I know if you don't have station status above a certain level the tax rate is 5% but does that rate drop the more status you get?

I'm currently at around 2.98%

Is there a skill that I have that is causing this or is it just a general thing that the higher the status the lower the tax rate?

You have already answered your question.

The more standing you have with the corporation owning the station, the less the taxe will be.

You can train the skill Connections to increase your effective standing with friendly corporation.

Thanks. I thought that was the case but everything I looked up never mentioned this.

I'm trying to get my standings up to get 0% tax. Going to take a while though. :-)

You will need 6.67 in standing (if I remember well) in order to have free-taxe.

Connections doesn't help the broker fee, it uses base standings. Also you need to train broker relations. Also accountancy to reduce the sales tax.

Also 0% is not possible, at max skills and standing (10 for corp and faction btw) broker fee is 0.185%, transaction tax 0.5%

BrokerFee % = (1% – 0.05% × BrokerRelationsSkillLevel) / e ^ (0.1 × FactionStanding + 0.04 × CorporationStanding)

ALSO neither broker fee nor sales tax starts at 5% before modifications, so obviously he's not talking about either one of those.

The OP was vague as to which type of tax he was refering to.

I meant Refining tax.

Sorry, I just thought it was implied by the station standing because I am mostly mining and production.

My bad.

Are we talking about Refining Tax, or Sales Tax? Refining Tax drops to 0% at either standing 6.67 or 6.70.

Also, the Connections skill bonus does help with refining tax.

It does. It means my standings goes up way quicker which obviously affects my tax rate because getting to 6.8 or whatever it is faster means the quicker I can get 0% tax on refining. :-)

Keep in mind, Connections skill only gives +0.40 per level if your standing is positive but close to zero. As your real standing increases, the bonus becomes smaller, but given that it's difficult to increase an already high standing, the bonus from Connections is still significant. I advise new players to train Connections to 4, and I recently trained it to 5 myself.

Refining Tax ("We Keep") = MAXIMUM( 0% , 5% - 0.75 * standing )
