Bookmarks?...How?

I have reviewed the page on the Evelopedia. It says there are two ways...

1) Select an object and click "Bookmark"
2) Open People and Places and select "Bookmark"

I really called myself looking, but I see no "Bookmark" option in any of the pulldown menus. I read you could select a system and select "BM" and it would generate a random BM in the system to be used as a Safe Spot.

I know I am blind...but damn...

Help?

Hi Jesuis Cache-Cache

A while back CCP changed the wording a bit.
It is no longer officially called "Bookmark" ingame, but rather "Location".
Rightclicking on objects in space will present you with an option to "Save Location", which can then later be navigated to either with the ingame contextual menu when rightclicking in space, or through People and Places window, places tab.

Alternatively, you can also save custom locations through this window, with the save location button.

I have notified the Evelopedia team, to make sure they update it with current information. Thank you for reporting it

So, I see videos of people making, what seems to be, an "Added Location" in the middle of nowhere. I guess this was a function of the former. The new wording brought a new mechanic?

I am interested in creating a "Safe Spot". One that is far away from any celestial object. I can and have been adding various locations into a customized list of folders in my People and Places window....

However, the custom locations are limited to existing objects in space?

No. But its a bit tricky.

Undock and take a station or any point you're like to warp to as target and warp.

After arrival open People and Places. Click "Save Location" down there.
Leave this little window (were you're able to type in a name for the location) open.
You can safely close the big "People and places" window if you like.
Type in (for example) "Safe Spot" but dont save!

Now warp to any other celestial (Gate, Station, Moon, ...).
In the middle of the warp click "Save".
The system creates a new warppoint or safe spot at the place where the ship exist at the moment you clicked "Save".

You can open the galaxy map and there switch to the system map before warping and creating the Bookmark/Safe Spot.
Then you see where your ship is flying and you're able to have more control about the place where you create the bookmark.

Ok...I have created my "New Location" or bookmark. I now want to pass this new location along to other players. I have read some seemingly dated articles on the transferring of BMs via..

1) Meeting the player and jetting it into space for them to scoop it up.
2) Create a contract. (seriously?)

Has this changed in recent?

We cannot just transfer the information by mail or some other form of electronic wizardry?

To create a copy of a Bookmark, just hold SHIFT and Drag/Drop the Bookmark from
"People and Places" into any Cargohold or Inventory.
Without pressing SHIFT, you'll move the original BM out of your 'People and Places'.

May take a minute to see the bookmark copy, this works a bit slow.

Now Drag Drop the bookmark copy from the cargohold to a chat window or into a e-mail.
Or if youre in same station with the other player you may use Station Trading.
Right click the other player and choose "Trade" then Drag Drop the BM into the trading window.

I have tried the Drag n Drop to both Email and a private chat window. It just sends a dead link.

But...The "Station Trading" worked! I created a new female character in a new account to support JCC and his trader ALT. The new character has been acting as a Buyer/Hauler for the Trader ALT. Hell, I've been creating "Contracts" to exchange the items for the ALT to sell.

I never knew about the "Station Trading"...duh....Ugh

Ha! This is great!

Still, the transfer of BMs via mail or chat doesn't seem to work...for me anyway. I am using the two accounts to test this to no avail.

With talk of bookmarks and safe spots...

How safe are they?

If one creates a new location and drops a container, can others scan and locate the container or locate the actual spot itself?

If you sit in your safe spot and arent cloaked a prober can find you. So safe spots arent 100% safe, the only real safe place is docked in station

I assume you are talking about Combat Scanners to find you?

When they do locate you. Can they actually warp to you just by your ship? I mean you can lock onto a ship like a celestial? From across the system?

Ahhh...I see. Well what if you limit yourself to, IDK, 3 minutes and move to another spot? How long does it take for a good scanner person dude to locate you?

What if you had three spots you bounced between every 3 minutes? Or is there even a scenario that would benefit from the employment of that strategy?

Just a noob pulling straws to get a head wrapped around this game...Shocked

A good scanner, with the right ship and implants will be able to scan you down extremely quickly, bouncing between 3 safes will keep you safe for a little while but they'll have bookmarks for all 3 in a matter of minutes. Also never make safes in a direct line to anywhere, if you're going to make them drop a bookmark halfway through a warp, return to it and warp to another celestial from that bookmark, dropping another bookmark whilst in warp, repeat as needed to get a safespot thats way off the beaten track.

If anyone can explain it better please do, it's been awhile since I've had to do it.

Just chipping in, this could never work. A bookmark (or more accurately the voucher you get when you drag a bookmark into your inventory) is a physical item just like any other. And one of the most fundamental rules of EVE is that items can't just magically teleport from one place to another. Therefore to give somebody else the bookmark, you will have to meet at some point, or drop the voucher somewhere for them to pick it up.

You can use a direct trade in station, contracts, jettisoning in space, corporation hangars, and a few more obscure methods (abandoning a ship with the item in cargo...) to do this.

Setting points halfway and setting another form that point is what I have been playing with. Staying as far away from planets and moons and what have you. I was afraid someone could..IDK...get a glimpse of you as they warped by you, if you were in a direct line between gates and celestials.Big smile

I can see the whole reason and logic in transport of a physical item. But the information is just that...information stored in the ships computer as coordinates. I see no reason why one could not attach that to an Email. It's like...

"Roger that, Captain Sprocket. I'm uploading the coordinates to your ships log now."

"Fine...We will rendezvous at 15:00 to begin the assault. Sprocket out."

None of this...

"Wait, I must convert the coordinates to a physical form and send them by courrier to your station where you can then create a contract to exchange the physical item so you can then add it to your log. "

Another couple of pointers for making good safe spots

Cosmic Anomalies will often be found above or below the plane of the planetary orbit. They also often form as far out as 4 au from the celestial object. Bookmarking one and then using it as a safe spot AFTER it has de-spawned is an ok tactic.

There is often the suggestion that your safe spot must be far away from a celestial and out of line between any two. This is because a very good scanner will try to guess where your spot is and pre set their probes into a pattern and range where they will get a 100% on the first go. They then move these probes to where they think you are and scan.

If done correctly they can get 100% on your location and the probes will be within your d-scan range for as little as 10 - 15 seconds. If you haven't been vigilant you could have missed them entirely.

Placing your safe spot in out of the way / unexpected areas will make it more difficult for the scanner to guess where you are.

That being said you should know how to use a safe spot before you rely on it.

If you are at your safe spot and you think someone is hunting you you should be cloaked. Heck just get in the habit of only ever sitting at a safe cloaked.

If you cant be cloaked then you need to be bouncing between safe spots nigh constantly. You also need to be spamming the d-scan button. If you see at least 4 probes within 6 au (900,000,000km) assume they found the spot and don't use it again.

BUT dont leave yourself blind to probes outside this range. If it looks like the scanner is covering a wide area they could be trying to figure out your pattern.

Larger ships are easier to scan than smaller ones so you will have better survivability if in a frigate.

A deployable container can not be scanned down. Therefore if you want to store loot in a system that does not have an accessible dock you can use one with near impunity. Someone could scan down your ship while you are using it though.

No one would see you while they are in warp. They would need to be "landing" someplace within 350km of you to see you.
