Archon fits

I'm not afraid to admit it, I'm a total cap n00b. Normally when I want to learn I stick myself in a situation where I need to use what I'm new to. Create a fit and break it. Over time refining the fits till I'm happy they are perfected to my playstyle.

My issue is that I am rarely going to actually use it, when I do use it in combat I have to have a fit that can do the job even if it's pilot is a little bit green. When new in a subcap it's not an issue being in a sub par fit because I can either make it work or it's loss isn't an issue to the overall objective. With a cap ship, at the level I fly at, it is likely to be a key part of the fleet.

I'd like to ask for a carrier fit that people know work for the following two situations.

1: Solo Archon with no cap support used in supporting medium sized armour gangs with logi/utility. Not intended for sticking around as the Intel channels light up.
2: Cap fleet archon.

I'm not asking for your super secret fits. Just two proven fits that I can start with and slowly tailor to my play style as I practise blowing it up....... I've looked at killboards and the problem is that I just don't know why some fits were chosen over others and what were fail or just unlucky.

Useful info about me:

I have decent experience using logi ships.
I can do the maths in battle on cap control/rep control with sub caps so expect to be able to migrate that skill set.
I fly nearly exclusively in low sec (although I plan one day to move out to null).
I have nearly no experience engaging caps, piloting caps or theory crafting caps.

I would appreciate your experience if you have it regarding fits and advice on the fit provided.

Cheers.

I myself can't help you, but as far as 'testing ships and blow them up' goes, maybe you should try out a LOT on the testserver. I can also recommend checking out some RnK videos, they usually show a lot of Archon use and it gets explained very well why they do certain things.

RnK videos have been studied in detail (ty RnK for those btw). As for test server, I was being a little over the top by saying I plan to blow up a lot of archons heh, however I do like the test server idea. Oddly, never thought of using the test server for that even though I know many do.

Don't tale this the wrong way but if you are now able to fly a carrier, didn't you have ample time to figure out how to fit one? It takes 3 months of training! Big smile

Or maybe you can't fly it yet and you are inquiring as to how best fit it for later?

A fairly standard solo archon is something this:

http://rooksandkings.com/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=39106

The main changes you would make to this is:

* Default highs are to run 3 remote reps and 1 remote cap.
* Add extra tank as needed and lose CPRs. One EANM is fine when the DPS is low. A dual EANM is fairly standard default tank. Add a DC when DPS is going to be high. If you know what damage types you'll get, refit to specific active hardeners. Generally you would run up to 3 low slots with tank mods. If you have another carrier around you can refit on the fly for more than this when you are primary. If you run too many hardeners you will gimp your cap recharge.
* Upgrade 2 of the CCCs to T2 if you can afford it.

For your cap fit, are you asking for a pantheon style fit? If so you drop the local reps (for more cap, or tank if needed) and change your highs to all cap transfers. You may also want a sebo in the mids, scripted for resolution since you won't have a triage scan res bonus.

Keep exile and mindflood boosters in your cargo hold as well. Exile allows you to rep better, while mindflood boosts your cap.
