removal of skills,or better said, every character to have the maximum skills.

most people i know rl dont play eve for a single reason : skill train time.

+ the pvp and solo pvp will come back to life once more, when everyone will be able to fly and fitt whatever they wish from day 1 if isk is available.

There is nothing good about this idea, and may God have mercy on your soul...

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your incoherent rambling were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

This would essentially eliminate the sense of progression in game.... How would you replace it?

So you want to take away one of the main things that makes EVE unique to other MMOs....4 words for you:

Feature Working as Intended

It's supposed to take a long time to get a great skillset. This system is, in my opinion, better than any other leveling system in any other MMO. It allows you to still make progress even when you don't have much time to play, which a lot of people don't. And in my opinion, training for weeks to be able to fly that shiny new ship, or use that awesome T2 module, or get that extra 5% damage, makes finishing training sooo much more satisfying, as apposed to killing 10 bears for 3 hours straight.

There's a sense of progression?

Training doesn't give me a sense of progression within this game simply because the train times are far too long.

The only sense of progression I get from this game is earning isk, gaining access to higher level missions, and acquiring assets.

With that said, the idea proposed would require a massive overhaul of the game in addition to an overhaul to the core concepts.

Personally what I would like to see is the skill training be based on usage.

Everything you do in the game has associated skills that go along with it so training can be as simple as buying the skill book, injecting it (provided you meet the requirements to do so), and playing the game. The training itself becomes a behind the curtain concept and as you play you will notice you can all of a sudden use and do things you couldn't before.

Of course you can still check on skill progression so you can see in which direction you are going and how far along you've come.

agreed absolutely^^

At the end of time, a moment will come when just one man remains. Then the moment will pass. Man will be gone. There will be nothing to show that we were ever here... but stardust.

One of the big reason I enjoy the current skill system is that I can actually play the game without having to worry about my skills (for better or worse).
And if I need to do something that I don't have the skills for... I am forced to either find a way around the problem with the tools I have available or find someone with the those particular skills who is willing to help me.

That's because almost every other MMO out there is based on the XP-Level system where you must actively grind to gain power.

Since there are no "levels" in EVE and power is more abstract than linear progression, players who have played by the aforementioned system find themselves at a loss at what or how to do anything.

Patience (or lack of) is another problem too. I remember MMOs of the distant past where it took several months of serious effort to attain "max level." Now, in many games, it's common to get "max level" in less than a week or two.
EVE is a throwback to the "old ways" where not everyone can be a "warrior king" right away. You have to work your way up from the bottom and learn the "basics" first.

When EVE was first launched this was a part of the skills system. The more you shot your weapons, the faster your weapon skills trained.

However, players quickly abused this mechanic by creating self-repairing, cap stable ships... warping off to a safespot... aggroing an alt/friend in a similar setup... and then just shooting and repping for as long as it took to gain "max skills."
CCP quickly abandoned the mechanic.

Gee, wait, lemme think. SP/Time based advancement or EP/Grind based advancement?

Well, I have a life, so I pick A) SP/Time.

Btw, not a new idea.

People will always complain about what they don't or can't have.

In 4 days I will have fighters V finished, a 40 day long skill for level V, yes there is a huge feeling of accomplishment here. The skill progression is far superior than XP grinding.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

I don't know about that. I just finished Fighter Bombers V (42 days, hooray for remapping) on my Nyx pilot & there was no sense of achievement. Getting my first Nyx probably will be though Big smile
