A new kind of planet was discovered recently. I hope CCP give us planets like this to play with in the near future. (following the next expansion?Big smile) That shows that the diversity of planets in this universe defies our imagination.

I've always wondered how viewing a spec of light through a telescope and observing it size and orbit can tell you that its made of diamonds and not made of regular rocks.

FC, what do?

Thats the reason why you play too much Eve and others do the science.

Well...its something to do with analysing different wavelengths. The guy who discovered it was made of diamonds however had a VERY VERY large Monocle!

Pretty sure they said the same about some moons in our own solar system a while back.

Aliens created the planet to mess with us.... they decided one day to make a whole planet out of a diamond. Then any race that came across it would be baffled and amazed.

They analyze the spectrum of the light and look for dark lines, which then correspond to an element. Diamonds are pure crystallized (compressed) carbon so I'm guessing they figured its made out of diamonds based on the mass of the planet they found, or something like.

Bullocks. It's all fantasy. Might as well play EvE, since science is just another religion. I have proof!!!

Proof I tell you!!!!

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse [lady of commercial virtue]. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.- James Nicoll

You might not have to go so far to find an abundance of diamonds. Apparently, it rains diamonds on some planets in our solar system. http://www.spacedaily.com/news/carbon-99d.html
