Firstly please excuse the grammar, my keyboard is broke and I will get bored of hitting keys until they work. You may pick on other grammar/spelling mistakes :)

Okay I just subbed for a second month, for one! month, despite the extra cost of doing so. I hope to explain why here.

The game feels like a normal MMO after a while, why do we have insurance? seriously..... if I lose my ship I lose it, or I pay another player for insurance and hope I get it, keep out of our sandbox, I love the don't fly what you cant lose aspect. this dilutes it. I like to PVE but I do want!!!! the cause for concern, or else I would play WOW ect.

I am a casual player, but again, I come here for thrills not a job, make ganking more profitable. Make me watch my ships!!

At this point I would like to ask a CCP employee to confirm I have not so much as looked sideways at another players ship :P.

Also 0.0 sec. I cannot think why I would go there... I don't want to join a big alliance, i cant harm it as a single player, nor as a small group.....POS (structure things) take days to take down? WHAT THE (INSERT SWEAR WORD). How is that danger? seems like defenders have all the advantages to me......make them destroyable in 2 hours with 50 ships with no defenders and we will talk. To easy to defend to make 0.0 anything but highsec for big groups. Make people work! for their space.

Also increase 0.0 income, don't decrease highsecs, and make more isk sinks, losing insurance would be a start. Get rid of drones too.....insert sansha (sp?) space instead? all i found was bots and free minerals lol.

Everything i have not mentioned I love lol. Keep it up. if I make it out of this month still happy I will get 3 months next time. Then you have me for life :P Along with others I hope. Its a great game, but looks slightly like its heading to try and kep everyone safe and happy. I for one want destruction and unsafe space, with a kick out the CQ door to boot. (get rid of the door? lmao)

Also thanks to the pilot, after i started to try salvaging, blued the mission even though i forgot to ask first. 12 mil is a lot to me still lol. many thanks.

Posting with my main to confirm newbyness.

It feels like a troll, but thought I'd respond anyway.

If you don't want insurance, don't buy insurance. Someone else's purchase of insurance doesn't really affect you much.

Insurance is an isk faucet. Ending insurance would turn off that faucet, not create a sink. Relative to other areas of the game, it is a very small source of isk.

Your description of 0.0 is pretty accurate. The people that live there like it. It doesn't appeal to you? Don't go there.

Pirate space is already available in-game. You haven't found it yet.

Based on your description of your play style, you should leave your self-made one-man Corp behind and head into lowsec and mission there. The rewards are greater and the risk of bumping into an unfriendly player or two will spice up your game.

Ill informed rant == troll?

It takes days now to bring down a tower? Actually it takes hours of play time to take down a stronted tower - if people want a tower down it goes down. Add more isk sinks and remove insurance? With decent FCs insurance is an ISK sink, try insuring a capital ship and you will see why. Hell without decent FCs capital ships is also an ISK sink (try buying one Big smile).

Also don't pay insurance, problem solved.

For the record, I buy insurance only on ships I expect to lose. I've insured less then 2% of my ships in my whole play time, easily.

We lack statistics to know if insurance is an isk faucet or a sink.

How many are insured? How many of those insured are lost vs those insured that are repackaged or the insurance expires?

I had 6 ships at one point, all insured, all insurance on them expired. I've run across dozens of folks with similar histories and others who don't insure at all or who only insure if they are fairly certain that ship won't make it.

Without full numbers on insurance, we can't say if it is a faucet or a sink. That just isn't a known at this time.

You seem to think that insurance somehow equates to "getting the entire cost of the exploded ship back". This is a silly notion.

A Sleipnir hull costs about 250 million; highest insurance for it right now is I think 30m, payout 80m.

A Proteus, plus the subsystems to actually make it flyable, is I think... 450m? (I got mine when it was more expensive, closer to 500m.) Insurance payout on it is... last time I checked, a couple months ago, either 17k, 1.7m, or 17m. I forget which.

And further, you can only insure the hull - i.e., the ship itself. You can't insure your fittings. If you're into PVE, and want to PVE efficiently, the time will come where you start sticking faction/deadspace modules onto your ship. These mods will cost far more than your ship ever will.

For example, a Pithum A-Type Medium Shield Booster, which can be used to pimpfit a Sleipnir (250m hull), or a Machariel (720m hull), or countless other subcapital shieldtank ships? Going price right now in Jita is around 1.3 billion.

Insurance doesn't cover that~

Yeah ... OP is a troll. No doubt. It's the story that gives it away. Trolls always have a story. They think it makes them more believable - but the story is the key to spotting a troll.

Now - the reason people respond to troll threads is because new people coming along and reading the thread can get some use out of it if people explain some of the things covered.

For real new people - think about what you insure.

When I first started I insured everything. I insured shuttles. I would have insured my rookie ship if they had let me.

After a while ... I began to realize that it was costing me a lot more in insurance premiums than I'd have ever lost in uninsured ships.

When you first start - if you don't know what you're doing - then it might be prudent to insure ships you use on missions or mining if you had trouble scraping together the money for them in the first place. But - once you've got a good feel for how the game is played and built up an income such that a cruiser isn't expensive any more - then you can stop insuring any of your ships unless you pretty much know you're going to lose them.

What that means is - if you PVP - insure your ships if you can.

If you are in Hi Sec, doing PVE, Mining or Hauling ... mostly ... don't bother.

Also - note that T2 ships are largely uninsurable. Typically, if you insure a T2 ship and it is destroyed - you get about the payment you would have gotten for the T1 version of that ship.

Actually, it is "known at this time*" since the faucet/sink numbers were regularly published in the QENs and as of the last QEN, insurance was listed as a net faucet of a little under 2T isk. Again, a drop in the bucket compared to other sources, but a faucet nontheless.

*Granted, the last stats published are from Q4 2010, but since it's always been a faucet, and nothing has significantly changed to reversse the trend, it's pretty safe to assume that it's still a faucet.

Yeah, if it takes longer than a couple of minutes to compose or if you switch to a different browser tab and then back again. Either way, that's the way to handle these new forums..

As for having more risk while doing PvE, besides all the other options that were posted, can always do higher level missions in a Frigate. Start off doing a level 3 mission with a Frigate in high sec. Not enough risk? Do it in low sec. Need even more risk? Move up to level 4 mission.

Yeah ... that too.

What I do - is start typing it in here - because this has a spell checker and Word Pad does not.

Then, I make a copy and paste it into Word Pad before doing the submit. That way the copy's not just in the buffer.
