The foreseeable future of Eve

Eve, dead? dieing? or critical maybe? I don't know how to view it as of now. CCP is digging a hole that I don't know whether or not they can dig back out of. Is this a rant? Somewhat, but in more ways it is overall concern for the future of my favorite game. Eve was founded on the premiss that it was a sandbox, and if you didn't like it you were told to "harden the **** up". While the phrase "Harden the **** up" is still commonly used it's contextual meaning is "Eve is a sandbox with rules, do what we say or else and if you don't like that Harden the **** up."

CCP is catering to the majority, is this wrong? Maybe, maybe not. In my view I say yes, it is wrong. Because, while he changes they are making may seem great now for most of you, they are starting a chain reaction that won't be noticed until it's pretty much too late. The way I see CCP flowing is, high sec (no pvp), low/null sec (pvp). Is this good, or bad? Good for now, not so good later on. As pvp becomes more structured blob warfare more people will quit, mostly the older generation of eve. It will be fun for the newbies for a while, but sooner or later everyone gets sick of the repetition, the simplistic locking shooting, locking shooting, locking shooting. Meanwhile in high sec the same is happening with miners, they get bored because there is no danger anymore, while you all may hate those jackasses who ruin your day it sure does keep things lively and some may quit because of it but most just stick with it.

As Eve becomes less and less of it's best factor, a sandbox, the worse it will get, subscriptions will gain for a while and then quickly decline. There is no avoiding it, it is how the game will die if CCP doesn't "harden the **** up" and make radical choices for the better of the future of eve and not just for right now and for the majority. <-- that was the rant right there, here's some more.

Am I mad? Hell yes, I love this game. For now at least, because it still has what it used to have, that wonderful sandbox. As long as that lasts I'm a loving subscriber of this game.

Anyone who denies that Eve is becoming less and less of a sandbox is only fooling themselves, they only think of it that way because the way they want to play is catered by the game mechanics, just wait until you want to do something else in this game and you will see what I mean.

Lots of words, but they are seemingly phasing out the predatory PVP in the interest of the prey.

He started EVE not too long ago, relatively speaking. And almost right off the bat he went straight into pvp. He didn't mine and whine about gankers. He didn't run missions and whine about ninjas. He fought people. Not only that, but he fought alone. In my eyes, he's worth a thousand of the derpers who only cry, cry, cry each time some meanie steals some ore, salvages a wreck, or pops a barge. He creates content, and is entitled to his opinion.

But let me ask you this, AHARM child: what if it was your play style that was on the line? What if the things you love about EVE were to suddenly be taken away from you? What if 2014 rolls around and CCP unveils "capsuleer technological breakthroughs" that finally make "communication protocols" in J-space possible? Would you feel at least a little bit compelled to express your disdain and emotions, or do you simply give so little **** that packing up and leaving for the next best thing would be second nature to you?

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not the OP. I don't control my corporation's posting habits, sorry. We post on our mains.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Classic, thanks for defining my meaning. As of now, people will tell me to "Harden the **** up" as you just did by telling me to play a different game. You will see sooner or later, you will get bored with your position in Eve and try something new. When you cannot do that, if your memory is half decent you will remember my words after I am long gone from this game and wish someone had listened to us. As for use not "finding a new topic" that we be because it's probably true? I mean do you think everyone who posts about this collaborates and says well today we will tell everyone eve is dead? Yea... no, we post these threads because we see what is going to happen to this game...

She packed my bags last night pre-flight
Zero hour nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone
Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you did
And all this science I don't understand
It's just my job five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man
And I think it's gonna be a long long time...
Before EvE dies...

Upfront I'm a carebear, pve happy casual for the most part. The only thing I an really say for sure is that eventually, SOMEONE is going to come out with a successful casual friendly Space based MMO because it was designed that way from the start. Regardless of exactly what genre it falls under, the casual pve friendly people like me are going to try it out and most likely stay. I don't think EvE will compete well if it tries to step out of the niche its made for itself and compete for players like myself.

Just my opinion.

Also I just came back and have no idea what you all are on about.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

They have one. It's called STO. Have you tried it? It's doing really well right now.

Look at my corp name... now look at this link... now BACK to my corp name again... You see it?

Big smile

Also... I don't dislike Elton John... I just don't dig him as much as his music. Puscifer is headed by the lead singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle.... the man is a genius.

Still.... generally (and Elton is an exception to this) the classics are the way to go.
Life on Mars <-- Can't improve on it.
Major Tom <-- Can't improve on it.

Edited for audio better versions... also I don't know when eve will die... but I've figured out enough about the game that I think I'll still be able to PLEX my accounts for another 100 years. I'll be here if and when EvE shuts down.

Funny, you made me think of something quite ironic. The mayans weren't talking about the death of the earth, they were talking about the death of eve....

Comparing EVE to STO is like comparing Duck Confit to chicken nuggets. Granted Black Prophecy failed as well, though it was very limited in deployment features as well.

Whine?
Quit?

Players vote with subscribtions. CCP listens to those who pay.
Vote with your subscribtion not whine. Roll

Whine and pay - subscribtions steady - and you are ignored most of times. P
