I'm not sure about it being a 'waist' of time, but weather it's a waste of time or not will probably depend on if your alliance tends to fly many shield fleets. You'd be better off asking people inside your alliance for advice.

And if you aren't in an alliance or can't ask any other members, you shouldn't be in one anyways.

Why I ask is that almost 50% of thevtitsns I've seen /flown with have been avatars.

Things aren't exactly rosey for the Leviathan:

* The Leviathan is a shield tank in a world dominated by armor tanks.

* The Leviathan always jumps in with less than full shield, so it doesn't fully benefit from boosters.

* The Leviathan lacks an equivalent for the 53.63% armor bonus that a Slave set yields.

* The Leviathan is tentatively slated to lose 20% of its already lower capacity shield.

* Citadel missiles are ineffective on anything smaller than a capital, or moving capitals.

* Faction citadel missiles are not as common as other types of faction ammo.

Avatars and Erebus' are the current best titans for flying. For the stated above reasons by Tau. If you are going to train a titan I would personally advise to go for one of those two.

Leviathan is the cheapest Titan if you only need to bridge people. For any other use consider non-shield tanked Titan :P

Thanks for all the info. Also, what skills do most alliances require a Titan pilot to have to be eligible to fly one in a fleet battle?

There's a slim chance they'll still be worth it if you've got the guts for the training queue and you can stomach the cost of the skillbooks. But you have to live with the consequences of your choice, so no bellyaching please.

im pretty sure that of all the possible ships in the game, if you have to ask what to train to get in a Titan, i dont think you are ready for the responsibility of piloting one.

tbh, a decent aim for you would be to fly a fully t2 fit battleship, and in doing so you will set yourself up with many of the basic skills needed to even start thinking about piloting a Titan.

Aim for the following before stepping in one:

Titan 5, Doomsday 5, Jump Portal 5, Fleet Command 5, Racial Turret 5, Jump Drive Calibration 5, Jump Drive Conservation 5, Armor Compensations to 5, Cybernetics 5, Biology 5, Neurotoxin Recovery 5.

May have missed one or two

(and yes the Leviathan is a total waste of time....the ragnarok less so; avatar and erebus have been the best for a while)

I remember the Leviathan having some weird bugged dps bonus to their weapons, meaning they actually do **** dps with their launchers even on targets big enough for the sig radius not to matter. If it's between the Leviathan and Avatar for you (didn't actually read all info you gave), you should really go for the Avatar unless isk is a big issue and you want a cheap titan rather than a useful one.

You never know, if you are only going to bridge with it and _NEVER_ enter combat you might aswell make it cheap. However I would personally train for the Avatar anyway. Would hurt my ego too much to train that long for something bad.

I would say the fact that tracking enhancement doesn't affect missile dmg is the main reason to go for turret Titans!

EDIT: That was a tad 'tongue-in-cheek' btw!

According to spacebook your character is only 6 months old. You're nowhere near ready to fly a titan. Also from this post it kind of looks like you're assuming an alliance just gives/lends you a titan for an op. That is not the case. So unless you have ~70b for a titan + skillbooks down the back of the sofa (something unlikely for a 6 month character) I suggest you follow the other advice in the thread and train to fit and fly a t2 fit battleship.
