Just finished my first one. Interesting.

Simple question though: does it usually/always escalate to null or is it just as likely to stay in low? Just curious.

Edit: provided it starts in low. In case that wasn't clear.

Escalations are a lie.

:-(

So are shiny drops, FML.

I never found one in low sec tbh, but they generally escalate between 4 and 10 jumps away.
Mine were always in null. I probably have done at least 30 of them.

That pretty much answers my question. For the record, they most certainly spawn in low and at least have a chance of finishing in null. I'll keep looking to see if that's always the case or not.

Not sure if this relates to the logistical outposts as well, but i had some minor annex escalations end up in lowsec rather than nullsec - but like 90% they will end in null. Must have something to do with the pathfinding or so is the only guess that i can do.

Generally they go to null, i think its only if the route to suitable null would be over x number of jumps that it stays lo sec.

This site is a pseudo 6/10, so it always escalates fully.

It's ended in Null every time I've run it. IMO, it's also a crappy (in terms of time versus ISK) complex to run. You almost certainly need a fully passive setup to run it, which usually means a Drake or an Ishtar, which don't exactly blitz the rats, and the payoff is only C-Type armor stuff. When I resolve it, I hit "Ignore Result" and go looking for some Phi-Outposts for the same mid-grade loot for less effort or some Outposts or Minor Annexes for better loot and less effort.

Nope. This was fixed a while back. The site may be hard/long but it now drops medium a-type mods, including the a-type eanm.

So, it can be quite profitable.

Didn't know that, thanks. May be time to dust off the Ishtar.

I just did this escalation tonight. I ran with an ishtar to tank and grab aggro and my friend was in a Talos for gank. It took us 3 hours from the lowsec site to the nullsec site.

This site's description is pretty accurate.

The neuting towers hit hard like a mother if you are active tanking. And they weren't kidding about the final boss. He hit me so hard that I couldn't rep the damage fast enough. Next thing I know, my trusty ishtar went kaboom ! I really should've warped but I underestimated the gank on the boss. Luckily my friend finished him off and we scored about 1.3B in loot. It dropped some corelum a-type mods and an overseer.

How hard will this site be after the new NPC AI changes? You will no longer be able to go in with a tank ship and a gank ship as the NPC's will switch agro to the weaker ship. If you have to tank both ships will you then need 3 ships instead of 2 to get enough DPS?

I run have 8/10-10/10 sites with 4 ships in gang, but testing the changes on duality this week end, the new AI makes this almost impossible. The DPS and Logi seem to get primaried as soon as they warp on grid. These changes will be across the board affecting all missions, DED sites, exploration sites, and all other normal rats. only W-space and incursions will not be affected as they already have upgraded AI.

Look into spider tanking your ships.

For example I have two tengus. They are buffer fit, no long requiring a shield booster and are pvp ready. They rep each other during complexs. If you have more that two ships they can all focus on the ship being primary by the NPCs.

Not sure that will help with this particular site. The neuting really is spectacular. Unless you want to establish both cap and shield transfers I think that option is out.

However, the second part is soloable in a passive Ishtar. I don't see that changing. I suspect a passive Nighthawk would also be fine.

The neuting was crazy. They neuted as far out as 150km. So spider tanking isn't an option unless you have cap transfer as well.

I failed to mention that we actually had to use a SB (friend was dual boxing) to help take out the neuting towers so it was a team of 3 rather than 2 that helped make this a success.

Bugsy does bring up some good points. I am not a Mission Runner aficionado to prognosticate on all the changes. But it will be interesting to see if these more challenging sites are worth doing in teams of 3 or 4 which will result in lower payouts.

Passive Ishtar is a slow but sure way to do it solo. If you launch drones as soon as you enter the neuting room you can target the neut towers before you get damped, and put your drones on one of them. Even after you are damped the drones will attack the targets you had acquired before moving on randomly.

Even after the AI changes this will work solo or with an alt or friend. Ishtar goes in first to make a run at the neuts. Once they are down any decent PVE ship can kill the rats.

If you get a Escalations/Expedition and they run the full way yes they end in low sec allways.

You're fundamentally misunderstanding the question.

First, your statement is only valid for escalations that start in high sec. This one does not; it only starts in low and null.

Second, this is not a normal escalation. This is one of the rare pseudo-rated sites (in this case, a placeholder for 6/10). So it doesn't necessarily follow the same rules as other escalations from scanned sites. In fact, the conclusion I've tentatively drawn from what everyone else has said is that it follows rules closer to anomaly escalation where it usually goes to a lower security band but doesn't always do so.
