Rookie Channel Exploit (ISK Extortion)

Hi folks,
I recently ran into a problem with a veteran player demanding millions of ISK based on my participation in rookie channel.
The problem was trivial until it crossed over to the Extortion of ISK from rookies.
I talked with an ISD that stated its not a problem he can deal with.

Here's the rundown:

"RookieVet" chats up a storm in rookie channel and gains the trust of many new players while tracking all players that are in the channel. All players in the channel are 30 day or less accounts, so basically "easy" kills. The "cover" for this operation is to help the rookies by giving suggestions on gameplay and generally gain the trust of all that are paying attention. This will allow for better "casing" of rookies that are possible targets for ISK extortion. The domination of chatting will also give you the chance to spot any Vets in channel that you should avoid. This works best if you have some help from others in the operation, which should not be hard given the large sums of ISK you can extort from rookie players.

When you find a target to kill, send "deathmail" demanding ISK in millions or constant kills by an outside merc. The merc should also declare wardecc if the target has a player corp, this is your favorite target. The merc should also have a high damage ship ready to kill players doing mining or hauling activity so that CONCORD will not reach them before the kill. The targeting of player corps makes the CONCORD problem trivial. The main use of the merc is to make sure the targetted rookie is shaken up by the kill and will find his situation hopeless unless paying the Millions of ISK demand. Notification to the target is necessary after a confirmed kill is made to assure that you plan to lock down the target in their station they are using. This will further make the target willing to pay your extortion to allow them to operate in their desired area.

The rookie channel will not allow this activity to happen in channel so nobody can actually discuss the events that transpire in that channel and you are free to gather ISK per week. Always extort more ISK than the merc is required to make the kill.

Solution: Having said all this, the only solution to this problem seems to be making rookie channel voluntary or buy an account and wait 30 days before creating a character to avoid the spectre of rookie channel extortionist. At the time of this post, I understand that Eve won't change this problem, so it's free game to exploit !

This seems like a very convoluted plan for little gain and since it targets people in player corps, why aren't they getting help from their corp mates? Nothing really suggests, that the people extorting are any real threat to a normal player corp, so this sounds more like a stupidity tax than anything else.

Thought this was about some serious new illegal scam against new players, until I got to...

That, and then everything you said afterwards makes me question your own understanding of what you're talking about.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

It is disallowed, even if it's not an exploit. But I doubt it would happen.

Separating fools from their money is a favorite past time, not an exploit.

To what end...

This is pretty silly, it's tantamount to mugging kids outside the local school, sure it's easy, but they don't have any money and you have to answer lots of stupid questions like, why are you mugging me and why are you so horrid, etc.

Got to be more ISK to be made elsewhere for the time investment, also less whining.

About a dozen delinquent teenagers/gangbangers beat the **** out of me for my bike when I was eight years old. So yeah, it happens.

And now I'm playing EVE. Huh. Who woulda thunk it...

Trying to bait and scam newbies is usually frowned upon and in some cases even against the rules. Especially using Rookie Chat.

Got that right! Just the other day I spent almost an hour probing down abandoned drones. I only made 9mil, but I felt like a winner! Big smile

If what you are just say'in here is right and can be proved with logs/screen shots/mails then no need to make dissertation about it any longer. Petition GM and this guy will simply get the perma ban stick. It's absolutely "verbotten" to ask isk from noobs or whoever in that channel for/by whatever reason, scam, grief etc.

This was already stated by CCP not long ago, the one thinking about trying to mess with rookies, rookie systems or help channel better think twice because once is done there's no excuse or even possible discussion, it's "Ban" for the winner and nothing else.

So, just do it and don't even mind with fake discussions whatever, there's no discussion to have with this kind of jerk. Petition and make sort he gets the ban it deserves.

You know they give out multiple warnings before going for bans, and even then the first few will be temporary.
