Personally atm at least on the t1 frig field its the Merlin, Condor, Incursus and Atron. As for the rest nothing is better than the Hawk and Harpy.

Pre buff though I still don't agree with this position that the rifter was best, it was just the easiest to fit.

True, the Rifter was like the Cane is now: easy to fit with good gank, tank and utility neut/nos. This set it apart from everything except perhaps the Punisher, which you could escape from easily, and the Kestrel, which could never fit a dissy or it would DIAF. The Vigil wasn't ever a solo frig, as it lacked the DPS to deal with even a weak active tank, but it was an awesome ghetto dram.

That doesn't mean you couldn't properly fit up a Crucifier and kite a Rifter to death, but there were clear balance issues.

I'll be interested to see how the Maulus fares post-buff. It is one of the least fittable ships, and is outclassed by a damping Condor. It should be the kiter's choice of stallion, but it's not because of a fitting problems.
