Strategic Cruisers

So, I have recently trained up strategic cruisers and all the subsystems skills to lvl 3...

I've saved up money to buy the Legion and the subsystems for it. (With plenty for spare parts)

However, I am overwhelmed at the "customization" of this thing. Where can I go for a good crash course to learn about flying these tech III things?

I have the following certificates, so my strengths are with Armor tanking, Beam lasers and power.

  • Elite Core Competency
  • Elite Turret Control
  • Elite Beam lasers (Frigate through Battleship)
  • Elite Armor Tanking
  • Elite Armor Reinforcement
  • Elite Hull Tanking
  • Standard Drone Control
  • Standard Combat Drone
  • Crap for missiles

I guess I will get subsystems to match those strengths,

What should I know before I actually go out and purchase everything?

just practice flying with the maller or the omen, that'll prepare you for the whimsy that is flying a Legion

Battleclinic has a decent selection of fittings for you to browse through (you have to sort though the bad ones though).

Perhaps you should say what it is for and someone could assist. But I can from experience say to fit and use it with only L3 on subs is going to be a challenge.

That's really a good question. I have a couple BS's that I use for PVE. I was thinking of going out into some wormholes and exploring and being able to defend myself if I get jumped. Anathema work great for exploring, but killing off rats, sleepers, and others to get the goods is hard to do in that ship.

Just a thought for you, you'll want to gain competence with Pulse lasers.

With Scorch, they are capable to quite surprising range, and they are substantially better at close range than beams. Also, tracking.

There's really very little a legion can do that a T1 or T2 amarr ship cannot. It's the weakest T3 by a far way IMO.
If you want it for PVE, absolutely dont bother, any T2 fit amarr BS will do much better.
For PVP, zealot aand absolution are both great, only advantage the legion has over the abso is sig radius which admittedly can be useful.
You can also fit out a neut legion for PVP which works well.

There is no Bob.

They can neut pretty hard, but whatever just fit a armageddon with nothing but a bunch of heavy neuts and a massive tank and it will neut just as hard, have more EHP and you'll have a boatload of drones to throw at people.

I think I am getting talked out of the legion. Maybe I'll just add it to a notch on my headboard and say I can fly it.

Don't get me wrong, they are good ships for shooting NPCs with and they are kind of okay for killing other people, but they don't really do anything particularly well, especially when compared with the other T3s all of which are vastly superior to the legion.

And there are boatloads of other Amarr ships that totally rock at being either general purpose combat ships or functioning more specialized roles and are typically cheaper than a legion.

If you're going to fly a T3, you must ALWAYS have your subsystem skill levels at 5. It won't take long to do and its worth it to get every advantage you possibly can.

Legion pulse config is pretty much the same as a Zealot, except for having a ton more tank.

I agree with the above, you need at LEAST level 4 in skills, I'd push for 5 in the ones for every system you actually use.

It is not god aweful, but compared to the other T3's its not as good. I do love mine, and I am hoping it gets some love eventually.

If you are running around with some pvp friends, you can make a very nasty neuting tackle Legion that has a ton of tank, enough to hold off with not a ton of risk until your allies arrive.

There is a special Hell for people like that, Right next to child molestors, and people that talk in the theater. ~Firefly

Offensive, def and engeneering subs must be at 5. Propulsion and electronic can be at 4. Keep in mind a legion is a T3 ship and cost quite a few iskies, so better have good skill or It's like flying with a nightmare...with T1 guns.

The legion isn't bad, it's just a zealot with moar ehp, faster (with the ab subs) and if you are living in a wh, good guy CCP won't let you refit subs at pos (really fun if you have a negative sec status...). I fly mostly amarr ship because i love them, but i try to stay away from the legion. I prefer using an absolution or a zealot.

I'm going to go on a limb here and assume you bought said character.Get to know how to fly some cheaper ships before jumping into an expensive one. May save you some heart ache. T3s are only good once you realize their limitations and fit the way you wish to fly. Perhaps the legion doesn't fit your playstyle. Though it does have quite a few viable setups compared to the other t3 s

Thanks for the tips on the pulse lasers. I've stuck with Beams in the past, but training them up won;t be too long.
The Zealot analogies are nice. That is encouraging. I have a zealot now that I made and fly. As the amount of resources are a lot easier to replace for a zealot than a legion, maybe I'll rethink based on that.

Thanks for the advice... But believe it or not, I have done all of the skilling myself. I think that I'm getting tired of being a carebear and aside from High Sec mining, Mission Running, and exploring unpopulated wormholes, I don't have a lot of "Experience."
