So after the frig rebalance... What are the king frigates?

Before it used to be rifter or merlin, and for the T2s it was probably jaguar.

What about now?

No King ever lived in EVE if you ask me. All frigs have their ups and down, I fly many different ones and I fear none more than the other. This applies to before the frig rebalance as well as now.

Over half of them aren't out yet so it's hard to see how things will settle. I'm sure you'll have a parade of people give you their opinion though. I'm personally interested in the Tristan and Breacher.

Why breacher?

Seems like such a random ship.

It will become a 3-4-3 slot frigate with a 7.5% shield boost per level bonus as well as a straight 5% damage per level bonus. It's shields are being increased to a base of 500. (625 with skills). It also gets two light drones. It screams 'asb' to me.

Not bad, pretty cool how useless ships are becoming good now.

king != invincible.

I killed a ton of rifters too. But it was still the king.

Slicer and Arty wolf are the two best frigs hands down.

Previously the Dram was king because ridiculous speed and decent dps means that you either win, or disengage, effectively making it unkillable with proper piloting.

Right now I'd say something like the Raildevil because it gets almost unmatched range control within scram range, and can project its dps pretty far causing problems for no-tank kiters. Slicer/Wolf/Other kiting ships are really good, but it can be difficult to keep at range the entire flght if it goes for long and getting slingshotted often means death for those ships.

I'm having loads of fun in the 'attack' frigs atm.

But i feekl the balance in frig combat is way better now than before and it shows by the number of different frigs that are out in regular play nowadays.

For me the condor and executioner are great for kitey stuff. and the condor does well in a scram kiter/brawler setup as well.

I will always have a place in my heart for the punisher. And i'm finding more love for the merlin now (even though I loved it before and feel the split weapons were fine.)

And the incursus is a great fast 'combat' frig for general buggery.

The rifter still have it's flexibility but now there are others that do specific things better than or the same as it so it's not a clear winner anymore.

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

+1

I would say that actually the Merlin was king and no one knew it. You had to train two weapon systems plus supports to really make it shine... No one was willing to put the training time into a Merlin so they just assumed the Ritter was better.

That's not to say the Rifter is bad, it was and still is one of the top frigates in my mind... It's just not easy mode anymore.

Rifter has never been the king since the merlin was very good even before the last boost.
Now for t1 frig combat the merlin is the king, incursus is close in second place and then you have the rifter and the punisher way behind the 2 blaster boat.

I would say the "king frigate" is the person piloting it; if you have the skills, know how to fit and fly your frigate of choice then the odds are in your favor to winning a space dogfight.

It took a gang of two Thrashers and two Incursus' to bring my Jag down. I think they didn't like it when I killed two of their friends a few min prior.
