Aggressive Drone setting should be altered to Automated or Defensive

While mining, I was attacked. The Hobgoblin drones tried to defend me, because they had "Aggressive" setting configured. The Aggressive setting was done in an effort to allow them to automate the locking and killing of NPC Rats. Effectively I was using them to defend my ship against NPC's. Because my setting was on Aggressive, my drones engaged a Player who attacked me unprovoked in High Sec. The result of the attack was the loss of a ship, and NO kill rights. I caused no damage to my unsolicited attacker, and I did NOT instigate the event...If this is how the mechanics of the system are supposed to work, then it is about time to change how they work. You can see I was not the aggressor in the situation, and yet the game is taking no measures to protect/defend peaceful miners...

Please rename the Drone Mode "Aggressive" to Defensive, and reconfigure the Kill rights mechanics to grant Kill rights to victims of unprovoked attacks, at a minimum EVE should be protecting peaceful miners in Hi sec....

1.) CCP Dev's are not supposed to be "protecting your mining ship". They are supposed to provide you with the tools to protect it, and you are then responsible for keeping your own ship safe!!

2.) I'm sorry you didn't get killrights when you thought you deserved them. Killrights, currently, are only awarded when your ship is destroyed and you took no aggressive actions to defend yourself.

3.) Go read the Dev Blog on the New Crimewatch System. They are changing the background system that governs whom can attack whom. It also includes changes to Killrights, such that you will gain killrights on any pilot that aggresses you illegally in highsec/lowsec. In essence, your complaint is already solved, you just have to wait 2 months for the winter release...

don't set drones to aggressive...problem solved. You got got by one of the older tricks in the book.

Aggressive drones will get you killed as you saw. Rats spawn, target them, sick the drones on em by hand. Yes this means you have to be there for the spawn.

Even mission runners have to do this, its not just a miner thing.

i think the long and short of it is that AFK mining even in high sec is not 100% safe (and after all, should it be?).

If you put your drones on aggressive and go AFK then a player might take advantage as happened to the original poster.
If you put your drones on non-aggressive and go AFK then the rats wil probably get you.

So if you want to AFK mine, I guess you make your own choice as to which is the lesser of two evils! Twisted

...and it shouldn't be.

Working as intended, though I did not know about the fight-back = no-kill-rights thing either. The current system is convoluted and going out the door.

Btw, try a Skiff. No, you can't sit for a half an hour and mine, but you can get the EHP up and use 5 medium drones. It also is a fast ship, great for getting the best ores in all the belts; no bookmarks needed. You might have lived unless that is what you were flying. If you were in a Mack, well, it is not the EHP ship.

That said, I do empathize.
