I've played EVE off and on, going through a number of trial alts, and now my
launcher "Username" drop-down list is cluttered.

Have tried selecting old usernames and hitting 'delete' but that didn't seem to work.

How can I delete the old entries on both Windows & Mac launchers?

After you "delete" the character, it stays there for a set amount of time. You'll then get another skull & bones icon you can click which will "Recycle" the character into organic paste. Yum.

EDIT: Aha, found the EVElopedia article: Biomassing a pilot

That's about deleting a character.

He is refering to the splash screen where you log in your account: Select the account name and password. All possible accounts you logged in with will stay there.

To OP, no idea but if you find the solution. Please let me know, got the same issue on the laptop.

Locate the file: http://support.eveonline.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=371

core_public__.yaml

Back it up (just in case) then delete it, or edit it (all the cached usernames are at the bottom of the file).

As stated above
By deleting (suggest rename) the "core_public__.dat" file found in C:\Users\your_user\AppDataLocal\CCP\EVE\path_to_client\settings

Just note it could mess up the client so just be aware.

OK, thanks.

If I just edit a copy of the file, and then the client gets effed up, do you think that returning
the original file should fix things, or might I be looking at a full reinstall at that point?

and Athechu, could we add this to the "thousand small things" list of potential feature
upgrades for future, please? I mean, a simplified method for this.

Yes, you can do that.

If you are truly paranoid, you can backup all the files in that directory and restore them.

The files in that directory are configuration only. You can delete any of them (or all of them) without having to re-install.

WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?!

It looks like my PC client now auto-magically has deleted all the old, inactive accounts.

CCP, did you guys seriously fix that this fast??

Mess it up in a way that a reinstall can't fix?

Granted, downloading a billion gigabytes worth of client install isn't trivial, but if a reinstall can solve the messup then it's not a disaster.
