RedBoXed - Small Gang PVP Podcast

About:
RedBoXed was started at the beginning of October to document, discuss, and theory-craft elements of small gang PVP. Our goal is to discuss aspects of our corporation Mafia Redux, the fights we partake in, and discuss fittings, fleet compositions, tactics, etc. It is our hope that people will find RedBoXed informational, entertaining, and educational. Our normal lineup will be AnchorSteamAle, Bizmarhk, Ltaustinpowers, and TruExXx. It will be our goal to get a minimum of two podcasts out each month, however, that will mostly depend on the amount of content that we are able to produce at a quality level that we feel meets our standards.

Episode List:

[!!WARNING!!] Some explicit language is used, but not rampant.

Send any questions, concerns, comments to TruExXx
You can also join us in our public channel "Redboxed"

Especially since we are just starting please give us your feedback. We need to know how to improve, let us know what you like, don't like, what you want, and what you want removed. Keep in mind we'll be talking PVP 95% of the time, that's what this podcast is about.

Good hunting!

Sorry we didn't have the SoundCloud account fully setup correctly. This has been fixed and there should now be an ability to download it.

This drivel put me to sleep, give it up. Seriously, while you're at it, just quit eve altogether, contract me your things and unsub.

Cool TROLLLL. But seriously good job guys, looking forward to getting into an episode! The story will go on, MFRX is a great corp for anyone looking for well disciplined pilots to fly with, yet a relaxed atmosphere.

Will listen next chance I get. Can you subscribe in a podcatcher via SoundCloud?

Welcome to the podcasting community Bear

Great first episode, I'm enjoying these new, highly pvp-focused podcasts. It is always great to listen to other pilots PVP methods, I learn something every time.

There was a small issue with sound cutting out every now and then, usually just before the end of a sentence. Hopefully you can fix that for the next episode!

Keep it up Pirate

I heard that too. Sounds like you guys are recording on TS/Vent with voice activation. One thing I'd suggest is to record on hot mic, then apply noise reduction in post. A steady base of white noise is better than the cut in/out you get with voice activation. If anyone has a particular big noise in the background, they can either hit mute briefly or you can cut it in post.

You can also use a music bed - low volume, even use something like PaulStretch to stretch it out 500-800%. This gives it a consistent audio base, so there are no periods of absolute silence.

$0.02.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys! We appreciate it. We did record this first episode on Vent. We found that doing open mic and then mute/unmute for some of us worked. Others it made an even worse cutoff effect. I will mess with recording open mic'd and then reducing the noise in post.

Some people also complained this episode was a little quiet. Did anyone else get that? Im going to work to fix that next episode as well. Any complaints about content or ways we talk about content?

I didn't notice it, but the trick I use is to amplify all my individual channels to -6dB and noise reduce with a hard limiter at -0.3dB, then compress the master with a hard limiter at -0.1dB. I also sometimes use a voice bus with additional compression and limiting. That keeps the levels nice and high and makes sure it never peaks.

I've also started listening on a range of speakers - cheap earbuds, PC speakers, car speakers etc. Often something that sounds too loud in my nice studio cans is just right on those others, which tbh are what the vast majority listen on.

ermagerd soundcloud. Cry

Any chance you would upload this and future episodes to itunes.. or evefiles or something, pretty much anything but Soundcloud. Soundcloud is blocked at my office, and I like to listen to podcasts while I work.

Thanks.

A big thank you to everyone here for the feedback. This is exactly what we wanted so that we can improve future episodes. As time goes on we will also have a more clear direction in each of our podcasts, and fine tune the issues that were present in our first episode.

We are working right now on getting this uploaded to another medium besides SoundCloud. In addition, we will fix the issue with sound cutting out, we realize the annoyance and want the audio to be as perfect as we can get it. And lastly, our next episode will be less about us, and more about discussions about ships, fits, and other specifics regarding PVP within the realm of small gang.

EDIT: We have included a way to download this from EVE Files.

Nice little pod cast, the open mic thing would work alot better (only really noticed it cut out with the one guy talking).

I used to be in the Drone Regions you speak of and yes the people fly in their mish mashed fleets happened all the time (defense fleets) someone would stepup to lead a rag tag band and it wouldn't always be a skilled FC. Alot of the pilots would get tunnel vision and get rapidly picked off as they gave chase with everyone trying to be a FC at the same time.

A small gang can rip apart a bigger one, they have already gone out with the mindset to PvP, where the other party are a mixed bag (miners etc who cease mining in get into their pve ships to pvp with even tho alliance members are crying inside).

People just never seem to learn. don't go chasing nano gangs unless you have a cloaky warp in.

Looking foward to listening to more after you iron out the kinks of your first broadcast, long live small gang PvP.

I love the idea, could use a bit more prep work, things just felt very haphazard.

Keep working on improving the format.

P.S. Also one of the things that made Kil2 great is it was sort of "by PvPers, for PvPers." Spending 5 minutes explaining how a dictor bubbles work is not interesting. Maybe I'm wrong but I think most of your audience will know that stuff.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah we're working on getting the flow more smooth. You make a good point about the dictor bubble being something everyone should know about. For Ep2 we've worked on no longer explaining how the tactics worked, and focus on only discussing what we did.

Episode 2 will be released within the next few days. Thanks again.

Reasons are the most important bit. You did this, but why? That's the interesting part, at least IMO, and discussing other choices, etc.
