5 new ships = win
2 of my favorite ships remodeled to sexiness = win

Tengu/Drake nerf = fail
Cane nerf = fail

Everything else = couldn't care less

I guess it's a draw for now. That minitard destroyer might swing it toward the fail side. But, the Tempest remodel might be worth 2 points.

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

This is hardly a small expansion...go read all the devblogs regarding what is coming down the pipe for this Winter. That website is really not the way to get your information on the expansion. Never has been. It's mostly a cliff note of the changes...

There is still the dx11 graphical upgrade in the future, isn't it? It's hard as it is to keep bringing significant additions to an old game, and with Dust514 on the horizon, some low time is a given for EVE. I'm still new to EVE, so my view is different, but there are some cool additions to be made I'd say (not just with Retribution).

That's what average expansions are in most games are. New scenery. Yet you still do the same **** as before.

The Megathron wing smoothing update is the keystone of Retribution. That will become clear in the next CCP Dev Blog and Trailer video.

The upcoming Retribution expansion seems pretty light on features. I mean I do understand the need to fix the difficult to understand aggression systems, and to make bounty hunting a viable profession. The updated AI should be nice.

But apart from a couple new ships. Is this really it? Or is there another announcement forthcoming?

I recall it being mentioned at fanfest that we would be getting avatar tattoos this year, but that seems to have been conveniently hushed up.

It seems the days of expansions like Apocrypha and Trinity are long behind us, never to return. Which is a shame. Expansions in EVE have become far less exciting than they used to be. And they certainly don't have the wow factor that expansions like Apocrapha did.

I miss the days when expansions brought a renewed sense of wonder to EVE.

Why you caled it expansion ? is a patch... like previous tons of patchs caled expansions...

Since years all what we got is tons of paches caled, incaria, incrusion etc, no new game content and true expansion, only small upgardes like last time missile visual or wired UI etc! every small cosmetic changes or two new ships take year long before relase.

WOW a new destroyers and mining frigate WOW also incoming huricane and missile nerf. This is big reason to caled - cosmetic changes as expansion ;)...

Somthing caled expansion shoud contain minimum.

100-200 new type of trade goods.
A lot new modules - BPOs
10 type of new ore - x type of minerals.
New structures in space, extended planet interaction.
Players interactive orbital structures.
Big economy manufacture boost.
Expanded WIS with opened door not a damn prison cell.
New regions or more solar system, even another Region compared wtth size to existed EvE word, with restricted acces or somting like this.
Few anoter ideas...

I call this expansion, and Retribution is only patch.

Cheers

It is an expansion, just a small one, like almost all EVE expansions. But what do you expect on a 6-monthly expansion cycle? Would you rather wait for 2 or 3 years for new stuff so that you can :awesome: over a 4-page changelog? What would the point of that be?

Honestly, I'd like to see a couple of releases where they just fix what's broken (FW, Incursions, missions, the list goes on) rather than add new content. It's a vain hope, I'm sure -- there's going to be a full-court press on to integrate DUST into the EVE universe, which means that a lot of EVE's PVE content is going to go begging for awhile longer.

I am glad about the ship re-balancing effort, though - it's been long overdue. The addition of the mining frigate and the new destroyers in particular are very welcome (though I'm still hoping that the fugly Minmatar dessie gets a face-lift). As for the bounty system and the Crimewatch changes...we'll see. I've never seen a bounty system work in an MMO that allows alts, and I suspect that EVE will be no different, but I'm willing to be convinced that CCP has solved this problem.

Lots of new ship hulls - that's a big deal. New mining frigate, four new destroyers, and a revamp of existing ships that practically makes them new hulls (like the old mining frigates). It's been a strange experience being able to actually make a living as a miner, and now with the boom in ship-construction that's sure to happen, the good times look to continue.

Crimewatch and bounty system - this is huge. It's a massive change to the basic plumbing of EVE. It may be a buggy disaster upon delivery, but you can't argue that it isn't a major change.

Fixes to FW to turn down the ISK faucet - this *could* be a big deal, depending on how it's done. Inferno was supposed to "fix" FW, and it ended up breaking it even worse. Let's hope this tweak actually fixes things.

DUST integration - probably doesn't affect most of us (yet), but it's in there.

These things alone make this a major update. Not much of it amounts to new *content*, granted, but given the problems with the content that's already there, I'm not complaining.

I wouldn't mind a 1yr development cycle.

I could as well, but people tend to start getting bored after a few months... and bugs get addressed much quicker this way.

do we pay money for expansions in eve?

nope

so shut the **** up and contract me all your stuff

Tedium and difficulty are not the same thing, if you don't realize this then STFU about game design.

With a 1yr development cycle bugs could be addressed quicker, not only because things are in development longer so they can be easier to find and fix prior to release, but also because they don't release an expansion then rush into the next one. You would still release bug fix patches during cycles. Your first point is correct though.

I have just viewed the last few expansions as just mega patches myself because they weren't focused on new content but rather fixes and polishing of existing features and attributes of the game for the most part. As for Icarna it brought WiS but that was in my opinion just so Eve could be used as a test bed for their WoD game. *Shrugs*

The days of true expansions bringing with them new content and features is most likely over.

Sunshine is overrated.

Quality of the content is a fairly important thing, followed by the quantity.

-Adds new content every expansion, multitude of problems as they are brand new mechanics.
=less shinies, more polish on old content! I'm quitting.

-Works on expanding older mechanics to make everything useful
=Less old ****, more new shinies! I'm quitting.

-Makes long project cycles for massive content releases.
=Takes too long! I'm quitting.

-Makes staggered releases to bring change more consistently over the year.
=Expansions need content! Whats with all the small things! I'm quitting.
