Hello, first of id like to say i have been reading the other forum threads and found many sollutions but none seems to get it to work for me.

Im fairly new to gaming on linux so any help is appreciated
when running "wine /eve/eve.exe" the patcher works perfectly but the game session will not open.

Those "Fontconfig" warnings seem a little weird to me, but probably have nothing to do with your current problem.

Your problem is one, that most eve players had some time ago and you basically encounter it, because you are using the stable (read "tested but old") version of wine. There are two ways you can go, and i highly recommend the first one:

1. Upgrade wine to >=1.5.10

2. Install the VC runtimes 2005, 2008 and 2010 and add overrides for msvcr80, 90 and 100 in winecfg:
- msvcr80 and 100 set to (native, builtin)
- msvcr89 set to (builtin, native)

but know that while the game itself will run, the launcher will crash when trying to apply a patch with the overrides set like this, so you have to set them all to (builtin, native) on patchday and revert them back after applying the patch. this kind of library juggling is not needed anymore with wine versions after 1.5.10, thats why i recommend using one of those.

No need to change any settings in wine cfg, just make sure you choose the wine metapackage and not the loader because the loader alone won't let Eve start.

This is the package you need to run Eve: Microsoft Windows Compatibility Layer (meta-package)

Ok this actually worked, my eve is responding very diffrently now, ie its actually launching the client .

But when the game starts the screen just turns black ,

I tried to install a version of eve straight from ubuntu using wine, but same result.

unfortunetly i dont have a log for this but i have a feeling its just me beeing silly.

nothing has been modified exept installing wine and after eve.

did you install the fonts?

from what you are saying i belive what u see is the license agreement (EULA), but because you do not have the font installed all you see is black.

I did not have the d3d dlls selected which was the first problem but i installed those using winetricks

But the fonts are still the problem , i did a couple of things ie , copy my windows fonts into my wine directory(not overwriting existing)

checked so mscorefonts are installed via package handler(done)

i also tried editing the prefs.ini for

"eulaagreed=1" but

still that box is empty so i cannot scroll down and accept

have you waited for some minutes? on older pcs this might take a time as eve starts with full graphics for the first time..

even on my decent machine that took about 30-40 secs..

otherwise .. hmm.. dunno.

Yes waiting was the problem with my intel i5-450M + radeon 6 series it took well over 2minutes for the fonts to pop up.

Thank you all who participated in the sollution of this problem
