Looking to start again, and setup a PvP/E character.

Hey everyone,
I'm a returning player looking to create a new character and start playing as more of a fighter.

I was wondering what ships are good for that sort of thing? Is there a race that have good ships for both PvP and mission running, or will I have to spread myself across different skills?
Also things like, missiles or pew-pew-lasers?

Thanks,
- Jack

Bit difficult to say atm, Minmatar has been the go to race for solo/small gang combat for a long time now but with the rebalancing happening it all looks interesting tbh. All have their own "feel" and overarching strategy but it seems as if CCP is finally catching on to the fact that rather than having one race overpowered it's better to have all 4 be viable.

In short, choose whatever you look for whatever reason you find important, they are (or will be after rebalancing) all viable in their own right. Note that for pve it's a bit more straight forward due to the obvious damage types they all work fine apart from perhaps Amarr which is kinda forced into Amarr space only.

Is this case even with missiles or lasers? Meaning they're both viable for solo and group player battles?

Umm... why make a new character?

You know you can train more than just 1 career, right?

Your dedicated miner could also learn to use guns and stuff =)

Each race has pros and cons, both for missions and PvP. And since you don't have to be a certain race, to fly that race's ships... again, just retrain the toon you've got.

But buy one of those resuplts. There's your real issue.

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

What?

I cringe at the notion of "rolling a new character" in Eve.

Other games, sure... you can make "alts".

In Eve, it takes ages before a character is trained in basic skills. Before you get a couple months of core skills under your belt, you suck at life.

Don't get me wrong, a day old toon can sit in a frig and shoot guns. But their tracking will stink, their tank will stink, and in general... they're fodder.

Whereas, you could take the character you already have, and train some extra combat skills.

In the event someone were trying to make an evil PvP pirate alt they don't want associated with their otherwise spotless reputation... might be better off buying a premade toon =)

Since the OP mentions PvE as well, I don't think its a matter of reputation.

I'd train directly for the Manticore for FW missions and the Condor for PVP. The Manticore can also be used for PVP, but it's a lot more expensive.

Ed: Also, to all the people questioning why you'd roll a new character: because of clone costs. FFS, losing my clone (no implants) costs me more than a fitted ship.

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

It is quicker to get an indy pilot shooting than starting a new toon, you will already have many of the support skills trained. If you do start a new toon, the cerebral implant is handy.. gives you a plus 3 to all learning, then plug in some plus 4 learning implants and you running at plus 7 learning. If you plan you mappings right at the end of 30days you will have very capable toon.

I'd say maybe concentrate on turrets first, as they will be transferable to most other race's ships, while missile skills will limit your choices much more. Unless your really into caldari ships.
