Ninja Salvaging with the incoming Retribution changes -- Hardcore Mode!

The incoming winter expansion has several changes affecting (some may say, nerfing) ninja salvaging:

  • Sleeper AI for NPCs - Ninja salvagers will get shot. This makes life really difficult in webbing tower/rat missions, or similar.
  • Crimewatch - Ninja looters will become shootable by everyone.

For some, this has spelled the "end of ninja salvaging", and they have commenced whining.

I call bull. These changes have also showed up recently, are due to show up, or are a different take on those above:

  • New viable frigates/destroyers/cruisers - make it un-obvious that you're an experienced ninja by using an unpopular ship.
  • Salvage drones - yep.
  • ASBs and Reactive Armor Hardeners - need some temporary good tank against those mission rats?
  • Sleeper AI - more missioners will not be AFK = less being ignored
  • Sleeper AI - no secondary salvage ships escorting missioners (take that, Noctis!)
  • Crimewatch (suspect flag) - more people able to shoot you in hisec = more people who will unwittingly shoot you = more people for the ninja-slaughter
  • Crimewatch (NPC flag) - Ctrl-Q will no longer work for people who realize they probably shouldn't have shot you. Super awesome for station-less systems.
  • Crimewatch (Weapons flag) - Fewer people in hard to probe and hard to annoy T3s about.

Heck, this combination of exciting buffs and nerfs almost makes me want to fix my sec status so I can participate again. A ninja does not give up, a ninja adapts and THRIVES. This is ninja salvaging in hardcore mode. Make it happen!

Yep, I'm certainly looking forward to the fun that the Suspect flag will bring. Lots of HiSec pvp potential.

High Sec PvP is kinda like finding out the super hot girl next door only does the missionary position.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Well... anything else and the police who were listening/watching the whole time barge in instantly, and shoot you.

Umm... more like, that super hot girl next door is actually your fathers illegitimate child after a little drunk wife swapping from a neighborhood mixer years ago when your family first moved into the cul de sac and you don't find out about it tell after you mention you have been "dating" her.
Thats how f-ed up highsec pvp is.

Looked everywhere on wiki and couldn't find that in game proffession "Ninja Salvager" but I did found "Salvaging".

Is it something invented by players, a new nex monocle or what?

Just tell us who she is so we don't waste time while we could have a nice drink with friends and actually have fun.

Unfortunately I'm unsure people have opinions of ninja salvaging other than "it should be bannable", "it's awesome" and "I don't care", with a large bias towards that last one.

Accurately, much like the self imposed "pirate" term.

Salvage prices are so ridiculously low nowadays, true ninja salvaging is a useless profession and will remain so after the patch.

Pulling aggro might become easier, but the typical solo mission bear won't shoot you over a couple of meta 1-4 items he would have had picked up with his looting bot.

The bit about being globally flagged might be interesting for a short while though.

Sounds like fun. The new faster cruisers are interesting too, 2km/s should be good enough to clear out a pocket and be back in time to steal the mission objective. Are you sure the salvage drone is due for retribution?

TBH ninja salvaging has been slowly getting nerfed with every major release in the last few years. Same thing for canflipping and whatnot. It's still doable but it's not really all that enjoyable anymore because of all the hoops you have to jump through and the massive amount of time wasted looking for adequate targets.
