Distribution missions worth it?

Since my character started in the gallente NPC corp "Center for Advanced Studies" and standing is 2.x, I started to fly courier missions for them. Compared to security missions, the rewards are rather lackluster; I'm getting 25k for completing a level 2, therefore I'm asking myself if it's even worth pushing my standing with the Center for Advanced Studies further.

- Is it worth running level 4 courier missions?
- What rewards can I expect?

If you somehow manage to not die of boredom you can do 32 couriers a day. That means 2 storylines per day. Which means that you can raise your faction standings really quickly. And that's pretty much all the reward you get for running couriers.

Oh, and you also get a handful of LPs and some money.

You wouldnt happen to know what the largest m3 a lvl 4 courier gives out? Could they be easily done in a t2 indy or would I have to look at getting a freighter?

I found some details on the level 4 courier missions on eve-survival, but nothing about the payout.
Nevertheless, they are supposed to be 3000m3 - 8000m3 deliveries 0-12 jumps away.

If you can use a laptop and watch TV or have a good book to read, level 4 courier missions are tolerable - of course there's always a chance they toss a level 4 story-line combat mission your way which can liven things up a bi!!

The largest "normal" courier mission I was ever offered was about 8,000 m3. So, it's not only doable in a T2 industrial, it's doable in a Blockade Runner, which makes completion faster. However, if you're really seriously running courier missions rather than getting the occasional courier from a combat agent (I used to average about 1 every 16 missions before the agent division change) it's probably better to combine multiple missions into a single trip, requiring a larger ship. Still, a rigged T1 industrial or deep space transport would be plenty for most.

Of course, in the storyline missions you have A Special Delivery: take 40 separate 1,000 m3 containers and haul them to your destination. I used an Orca for that one when it came up.

PVP is a question with no single right answer, but a lot of wrong ones.

As far as I have found couriers are only good:
1. When you're working corp standings and that's pretty well all the corp offers (e.g. ytiri);
2. When you got absolutely no combat skills at all (but even my scanner alt can fly drones well enough to complete lvl2 encounter missions);
3. When you're doing other stuff that requires lots of attention (even then running lvl3 encounter missions in a decent mission running ship doesn’t require much attention ... you can head away to do something else and the NPCs are not going to seriously harm you).

If you have the option, lvl3 encounter missions will retun far quicker standings boosts than lvl4 courier ... and they're quicker to complete on average. ISK-wise I am not sure, but suspect lvl3 encounters still better than lvl4 couriers.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

The other circumstance where they are very good is if you can find somewhere where you get multiple lvl 4 missions going from and to the same location - you can very quickly get storylines if you are doing them 4 at a time. If you are looking for faction standings they can be the fastest way to get them - especially if you are able to actually complete lvl 4 combat storylines.

Okay, it seems I have to ask more bluntly:

- Level 4 courier mission, how much ISK? :)

None. Well, it's a little, but even at level 4 I'd be surprised if the payment plus time bonus exceeded half a million. Usually it's under a quarter million total.

You should of relized by then, that running NPC newb corp agents isn't worth it. The social skills don't affect them as much as other NPC corps or at least it did before the overhaul of the social skills (now, I don't know other then that distribution agents are boring). Newb corps also don't offer anything but standing for a jump clone, LP is substandard, and well AFK hauling is best done AFK cause the travel mechanics of EVE + lol risk into lowsec + **** payment less then 1/3 the cost of a T1 industrial = stupidest thing out of any MMO (why risk a 4 million ship without rigs if its full of cargo expanders for 200k isk per mission and 1000LP even for level 4 + the cost of your implants with the pod since ship combat in EVE equals to FPS syndrome - if its on grid, shoot it! which isn't much different then MoH or CoD; welcome to fail the fail sandbox that is called EVE which should just be a FPS with sci-fi looking skins). Back on topic, run any other corp but CAS. CAS is a great social group of people, but our NPC admin side are pretty terrible.

I haven't done any but one mission for Center for Advanced Studies, but started with 2.x standing with them, hence the possibility to run level 2 missions from the start with 0 SP in social, as I started playing 3 weeks ago and so far focused on Industry and Mining. Since standing is important for me from an industrial point of view, I thought the possibility of skipping the level 1 mission grind might be a good idea - aparently it's not as those very helpful gents in this thread explained to me.

You must be one of those bitter vets I've been warned about. :)

Spend a day or two training Social up and then Connections of 4; that's enough to get you a modified 1.12 standing with any corporation you don't have negative standings with already. That will let you completely skip the level 1 missions, though I recommend doing a few anyway just to get a feel for how they work.

Only good for raising standings with a particular corp and nothing else. Lvl 3s are better due to being able to complete them so fast (maximum mission jumps is 5) and in turn grab storylines from them without ever having to venture into low sec. Do not do these missions if you are looking for fast ISK or LPs as its just not worth it.

The problem with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and putting things in it.
