Salvage drones - The final nail in the coffin for marauders?

Ok, so the concept art of some upcoming eve additions had been posted in this thread essentialy being these pics, one of which is a salvage drone.

If these drones go live in eve do you think will it remove the only (and currently debatable) reason to fly a marauder over a faction/navy BS for missioning?

Faction/Navy BSs can currently clear missions somewhat faster than their marauder cousins and the addition of the excellent, low skill entry Noctis combined with the loot table reworking only pushed marauders further towards obsolescence.

I wonder if the addition of the ability for Faction/Navy BSs to salvage out to drone control range will remove the last reason why players may choose to fly a marauder?

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Marauders are useless at the moment allready (except the vargur) - this doesn't change that much. I would guess CCP will revamp marauders at some point next year - with removing the salvage/tractor stuff for something useful.

see the problem with faction bs's is that they all cost 1b+ while a marauder costs +-800m, and can (arguably) tank better, which is what matters when you're flying a shiny ship like that.

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

Rofl - all that matters is DPS. You just need a minimal tank. For a well fitted faction BS, 300 dps sustained tank is completely fine and you can still go AFK in most missions. You can go even lower on ships like the mach, and other high dmg boats.

If you are worried about getting ganked - a faction BS is even more better since most of them are having increased Shield/Armor/Struture HP over their T1/2 counterparts.

What if the marauders get a bonus to salvager drone use too?

Also, looting. Haven't heard about loot drones yet.

Also, it's not like other ships aren't using their drone bandwidth right now. Forgoing DPS drones at the expense of salvager drones (or spending extra time in a room after rats have been cleared) isn't a free meal.

The Marauder could fit three tractors letting the salvage drones operate very close to the ship (i.e. no travel time and can swap to combat drones quickly.)

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

Missions are not the only pve in EVE... A 300 dps tank pilot afk will soon find himself in a pod.....

Just no. Both Marauders and Faction BSs have more then enough tank to do their jobs but if anything the faction BSs have a significant tanking advantage because they in general have around a 50% EHP advantage. A Golem in a mission fit is a 60k EHP 2bill loot Piniata.

I feel as though BS wrecks are the only ones worth looting and salvaging. With that being said, Vargur multitasks like a receptionist on meth.

Indeed, but if you get ganked in it, its entirely your fault.

Anyway, Marauders are redundant. If you can invest ~1b for mission ship, you can pimp the tank too. Also Marauders arent good for PVP because of their cost (though they can be used, I dont deny).

However, with new winter tournament and arena type PVP that will come, marauders will see more use, as generally cost isnt an issue there - because you cant rly be blobbed.

Still, rework is needed, to ship not that much PVE-specialized.

The benefit of Marauders was always that they could loot and salvage while they were putting out max DPS. This does not change that — all other ships will still have to give up damage output to do that.

No offence at all intended to the OP, but you'd have to be a complete tard to salvage using a Marauder. It's always going to be more efficient to take an appropriately fitted Cormorant or Noctis along on an alt and use that instead.

And while we're talking about the Class type, why has the Golem only got 4 launchers FFS? It should have at least 5 and I'd prefer 6, with the last High being used for a Drone link.

I don't know about the effectiveness of other racial Marauder hulls, but as far as the Golem is concerned, the CNR is far more efficient for Lvl 4 missions, both in terms of cost and applied DPS.

in all seriousness, marauders, much like most T2 ships, need a thorough reworking.
