I personally think it will be very detrimental and that they will never find a common ground between immediate gratification FPS players and the Empire-building types that hope to have a really good situation going for them at the end of a 6 month or 12 month or two year plan.

I just do not see it working. I see it as a diversion and market destabilizing infulence. ...

What do YOU see ?

well since dust is fun, and appeals to a much bigger market then pc/eve markets I think its a very good thing... some of the dust players will probably try Eve as well, if some stick its even better.

…that they're not going after “ immediate gratification FPS players” and that there's nothing to suggest that SOE have anything to do with EVE.

I think your argument is wrong, I know dust will satisfy the FPS player. And dust will add another dynamic to the ever expanding eve universe.

Can't wait untill when Eve online is Freemium. WiS only 10$, SP booster for one month 15$, DPS Boost 2$, EHP Boost 2$ Real money trading hub! Cosmeitic ship skins 15$ --> If you don't pay **for a product, you ARE the **product.

i think many PC players don't realize console players in reality want a game that lasts them 12 months the problem is this gen most game have been boring after a few weeks.

I remember halo CE every weekend at my friends house system link because it was fun, that game was fun for years.
star wars battlefront was fun for months.
heck even rainbow 6 vegas on 360 was fun for a long long time, but recently games get boring in days rather then weeks or months.

If dust 514 is the game that lasts months instead of days people will play it.

I think Dust is more meant for eve players already.
Why else play that game over call of duty?
Its to better control your space and environment.
Also, more immediate play is available while you are stuck mining.

Well probably not meant for that solely but that is the only way I see it being useful.

Agree that concole games have a short life. This is a risky gamble on CCP's part, hope it works out for them

Ever play Chromehounds? If not, you missed a great game that many played for a few years. If dust matches that game, it will last for a long while.

Depends on how awesome Dust 514 is as an FPS game. If it's not so awesome, then things could get bumpy. Smile

I still play Golden Eye and SW Battlefronts. My friends played those and Mario Karts for years. I gave up MK when they lost interest, just not fun by yourself. Still own a couple though. But yeah your right modern games seem to blow ass. Can't forget GT 2, best racing game either. Since I hated Halo, I can't imagine I'll care for Dust.

In my limited experience, the only way folks survive Eve, in between the exciting parts, is to alt tab into Minecraft, World of Tanks, etc.

I would gladly alt tab into Dust except.....it is on a PS3!

I will not be relocating my PS3 into my computer room and to be honest, have no interest in trying Dust but....

if it were PC based, I wouldn't hesitate to have it as my alt-tab game of choice.

As it stands, I hope it thrives and makes the Eve universe more exciting - but I won't be playing, sticking to my alt-tab game of choice atm, WoT.

Unless Dust opens up huge new isk fountains (very likely IMHO) then its dead on arrival.

I know a lot more FPS players than I do Eve players and almost without exception they are unimpressed by Dust. A lot of them mention the amount of options as being daunting but the bottom line is that none of them find the game compelling enough to play regularly.

The only FPS players I know who would try Dust regularly are ex-Eve players - some of whom didn't like Eve (game mechanics) at all but like the Eve idea..

So unless Dust players in your Eve corp = huge ISK fountain in Eve then I can't see Dust doing well in a world of FPS games.....

My biggest worry about dust is the potential for "boosters". A "booster" is a player with multiple consoles who attempt to influence stats and other in game factors by abusing their multiple accounts.

For example, if I had 2 consoles, 2 online accounts, and 2 copies of an fps, it may be possible to create matches where I am only playing myself. As I control both sides of the battle, I can manipulate the outcome to my advantage. For example, I could have one account always win, getting a perfect kill to death ratio if that is of value. Or worse, I could quickly lose to myself, scoring a large number of quick wins, potentially flipping a map for my group/squad.

Now dust may be setup such that boosting has no value other than making,my epeen look big. in that case, who cares. However, if boosting can strongly influence maps, wars, etc, it could be a large problem. Given that we know corps have used similar boosting concepts to impact factional warfare, and there may be users with multiple accounts and consoles, boosting coukd be an issue. Hopefully ccp is prepared, but it really will just be a wait and see.

It remains to be seen how they are going to link the economy of DUST with that of EvE. Things work differently enough in DUST that the EvE industrial base may have nothing to offer them. Play the beta.

DUST will probably bring in some new players. Regardless of what the long term prospects are, I would bet we bring in the winter expansion with a surge in player numbers...

Signatures should be used responsibly...

I have 2. One of the old 40g with mods, I never use. And a newer 320g. Thank you, now I have a reason to use both.

Dust will cause more people coming into the EVE-O GD section to start a complaint thread to try and gain more attention to their opinion, which is nothing more than a regurgitated opinion of someone else who also has never even played Dust514 but are very quick to give their twice regurgitated rhetorical opinion of the game.

I am curious, since I don't play FPS, and have no console, Dust has been out of realm of commenting.
I know it could have a huge impact on Eve, but I am unsure of the mechanics of Dust and the how it will interact with Eve.

But will Dust players be buying Aurum directly, or will they need to buy plex to convert to Aurum?
