Monitor quality....

I was running an Alienware M18x. Whatever you call it. You know what Im talkin about, at the time I payed around $2600 USD for it. Anywho - the wife's laptop went down and she needed one for college and to fulfill her smalltime gaming needs as well, so I passed her my laptop and built a tower.

My problem: The monitor on that laptop was absolutely amazing in picture quality, sharpness, and brightness. My new monitor not so much.

My question: Can anyone suggest a 21.5"+ monitor that will at least compare?

Please and thank you.

Try this :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005289
I have that myself. Some minor backlight bleed (only visible near corners/edges in near-darkness), decent controls, barely noticeable colour distorsion upon view angle change, and of course the usual insanely wide view angle of an IPS panel.

Or if you're going for the cheaper option, try this:

IPS panel, dirt cheap.

If you have some serious money to splurge, try this:

Not for the faint of wallet though.

dunno much about small screens but If I remember well all IPS monitors use a DVI-D plug so make sure your graphic card has it.

If you're considering the 27'' way, there are great bargains on the bay with some korean monitors using the best IPS panel available at some super filthy price. Search the bay (.com only) for "shimian 27" or "catleap 27" or "crossover 27". The last one is the best of the 3 and it's available also in a pivot version (you can rotate it by 90°), it's LED, IPS, perfect pixel, with warranty and costs less than 400$

If the monitor uses DVI-D, on the video card a DVI-D or a DVI-I will do equally well (DVI-I is just a DVI-D plus analog signal pins).
My monitor (the type of the one linked first) has 3 input ports : HDMI, DVI and D-Sub.

yes usually GPU's don't lack of plugs, the problem is that the monitors I linked only have a single one which is Dvi-D. But I thought the one with more pins was the Dvi-D while it's the other way around instead. Ok no adapters needed then, unless one doesn't want to plug more to the other plugs too

Also, about the korean IPS monitors, double check which AC connectors/standard they use, if you live in the US or in GB you'd need another adapter.

Btw, those monitors use just _the same_ panel used by the macbook-whatever-it-is which costs 1.100$ and it's still made in korea/china but has a bitten apple on it, thus the price difference lol
