I've been a vocal critic of CCP's recent antics, but even I have to admit that they're not that stupid.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

I distinctly remember this coming from a dev:

Don't know what discussion or thread, but it was as clear as day....

"Suspect flag" earns gate gun aggro.

Stupid, of course. But this is coming from someone who seriously suggested:

a) suspects get sec-status penalties for defending themselves.
b) neutral reps for players engaging suspects do not get a suspect flag themselves, and are therefore under Concord protection.

Hopefully the outraged response shook a few braincells loose, but I always expect the worst.

As it is, ninja profession is going to be killed dead by the new 'safety condom' for carebears.

Yes, in fact I believe I made quite a few posts in that threanaught. The thing is, they backed away from that specific element fairly quickly. It would set a massive precedent for non-player punishment for non-criminal actions. If such a change went through, they could quickly justify (and in fact be obligated to implement) the removal of all aggression in high-sec, and make any "unfriendly" actions punishable by instant NPC spanking. They wouldn't be able to get away with this until whatever is left of the developer old guard leaves the company and/or they get bought out by Activision or something.

I too expect the worst. In fact, we're at this point very likely to receive the worst in all but a few forms, because even after months of argument and public outcry on our part they still haven't budged from their plans to get rid of can theft.

I like how the expansion advertises crimewatch as "Finally criminality will have consequences!" that's a really great way of saying that you're officially not allowed to kill people in highsec anymore.

Hmm. that's not how I read it. I read it more like: "Griefing fun for everyone!Big smile!"

That is actually what it is. You can apparently bounty anything, anywhere. Corps, Alliances, Ship types, Characters, etc.. No regard for Security status means that a lot of players will be getting bounties from players that simply don't like them, or have been holding a grudge. I believe that's why it's called Retribution.

Should be interesting. I'm hoping I'll get to collect mine, regularly. Big smile

I'm not sure about all the details of course. Is it going to be legal to aggress a Bounty target in Highsec, for example? I suppose I could read more, and I'll probably do that, but I'm not sure it's in there, or even decided on yet.

This expansions seems a bit light .. Incarna introduced more content than this one.

Here's hoping that something interesteing gets announced.

Except for the name they haven't really announced anything they hadn't announced already. I have a feeling the juicy juice is still to come.

So what else are we expecting?

- ring mining(?)
- new POS
- new explosions
- system lighting effects
- new turret nozzle effects(?)
- new drone control UI in HUD

The POS stuff has the potential to be the 'big thing', maybe?

EDIT......but as the POS update is art/industrial mechanics/smallholding/avatar related, it can't be a big factor in something called, Retribution !

I think the new crimewatch stuff will be a significant improvement to the game, could be fun Smile

Err, crimewatch? That's a huge change. New bounty system? That's another huge change.

Maybe you should write to CCP and tell them what you want.

that bounty system, i wonder what's stopping a vet from putting 1 mil bount on all the new players in a starter system and watch the chaos, or pirates putting one on miners? if you can really put a bounty on anyone, Jita undock will be a fun place to be :-).

Well, I have read many interesting approaches to a new bounty system, but I think most of them will become exploitable sooner or later again. I don't know if this was suggested already, but here are my two cents:

- Bounty payout only on pod kills.
- Bounty payout is less than the cost of the new clone.

Simple. Loss is always greater than reward.

Comments are welcome.

Crimewatch changes sound interesting, liked the idea of it when it was mentioned at Fanfest, hope it works out well.

As to the models. Minmatar and Amarr models? Did you sack all your concept artists? The Minmatar one looks plane bad and the Amarr one lacks any inspiration :/ Such a shame as I like the new Gallente destroyer and the Caldari one looks great!

If I remember, it's not just can flipping or suicide ganking rookies in starter systems that's disallowed - I think I remember a GM posting that the guideline was 'don't **** with newbies', but I could be wrong. Even if it happens the bounty can only be claimed by suicide ganking the rookie (banned) or if you have kill rights, in which case the rookie's been naughty anyway.

Putting bounties on just anyone isn't going to cause too much shenanigans. The downside to putting a bounty on some random pilot is that you just lost money putting bounty on some random pilot.

I'm sure that with these "new" features, the hordes of high-sec bears will also finally venture out into low-sec to "experiment with the pvps" since they'll be willing to buy/use pvp gear due to their now-uninterrupted and guaranteed risk-free high-sec income streams. Right?

Good. That's the way it should be.

From my understanding this is exactly how it's going to work (except not being pod-only):

To get an assumed bounty of like 1 million, the loss mail has to be at least 1.2 million in value (as an example). This would making collecting your own bounty rather unattractive, while still allowing you to "pay" to get rid of it

Also I'm really looking forward to these changes. As for "low level" crimes I'd suggest waiting for more details. But at the same time think of civil courage in real life: people don't just watch others getting robbed. Some will try to help the victim without them going to jail (as long as it's reasonable). Is this new flagging going to be that different?
