My current long term goal is to end up flying a Battleship...and I have narrowed it down to these two choices...I like the Rohk for its long range capabilities, but from all my forum lurking all i have heard is that the sniper role is really no longer needed, I have also read that the Thron can be set up to be complete **** face....but looking at the throns bonuses to hybrid turrets....if I was willing to give up the Rohks range bonus, couldn't I do a decent job of sniping, and then with a simple fitting change go to a more "brawler" build as well....educate me.....

tl;dr: Rohk or Megathron.....or get both???

Using a battleship in PvP means you're in one of two situations--either part of a large fleet, in which case fleet doctrine should determine your ship choice, or you're alone/in a small gang. The latter role is rare these days as the sacrifices BS make in terms of speed, agility, and price are seldom worth the moderate gains over a BC in firepower and durability. If you do want a small gang or solo BS, you'll want one with utility highslots like the Tempest. There are a few gimmicky ASB Rokh fits, but it's not something I'd have as a training goal. The Megathron is probably better here, but still not ideal.

If you're flying without logi, the Hyperion is also worth a look.

In terms of fleet warfare, the Rokh is superior by far. It has a better tank, better range/alpha(with rails).

Snipe from what range?
Pick a Mega, fit it T3 BC like since you don't need tank to snipe and get an optimal with T2 long range ammo above your max targeting range (optimal+fall off above 300km), biggest difference with Rock is +dmg, and you want +dmg.
But Rokh is ok too, an awesome ship full of mids for tank but no dmg bonus on hull and limited low slots to increase dmg.

To snipe in fleets I'd pick Rock because average snipe range +/-150km, very decent tank and still dish a decent amount of dmg.
For solo sniping, Megatrhon everyday!!! -+ tracking +dmg, how not to choose this one?
Welp Mega sensor strght sucks arse hard, unless your target is dumb or afk he could warp out and in twice before you can lock it.

Why only a Rokh or Megathron? I prefer pure Missile hulls myself, but were I to choose a turret BS, then there's only really one ship I'd go for - the Machariel.

It also costs over 2 billion to buy and fit properly, not even including the snakes you should have.

And? I lost a PVE Drake that cost more than that.
