Navy Faction Omen or Tech II Zealot?

I'm on the hunt for an Amarr cruiser. I can currently fly a Navy Faction Omen. But my question is, should I wait and train for the Tech II Zealot? Is this a better ship? It seems very similar to the Navy Faction version but I'd like to hear some opinions. Thanks!

What do you want to use them for?

Zealot gets better range and good resists, but it lacks drones and therefor has trouble with frigates.

I was planning on using it when I hit level II missions. I already have an Omen, but I want to upgrade it.

L2s are still mostly frigates, so a NOmen is going to be a better bet. A Zealot shouldn't really have serious problems, but you'd have to fly quite actively and keep range to make sure nothing gets under your guns.

I don't know about Amarr, but when I started L2s, I used an Assault Frigate(Wolf) instead of anything cruiser sized.

Nice, I'll check it out. But I do like Amarr since I get major laser turret bonuses.

False. Coercer is where its at for L2s. Dont waste money on a Navy Omen .

for lvl 2's, I'd use either a coercer, an arbitrator, or a retribution (according to what type of ship you want to fly). Once you upgrade to lvl 3's, then I would look at harbinger, zealot, sacrilege, or navy omen (or absolution if you're feeling really pimp). Then for lvl 4's, you either have the battleship lineup, or you have the absolution or the legion.

In almost every regard, the NOmen comes out over the Zealot.

Although the Zealot has T2 resists, the slot layout and drones tend to win over.

I know a fair number of pilots who, for both PvE and PvP matters, they'd rather use the NOmen.

Now if they redid the Zealot a little... maybe added a drone bay or a utility high...

I'm with this. A beam punisher or coercer is the way to go for amarr level 2's.

I currently am using the navy omen to run lvl 3s. It is a lot of fun to me. I used the navy omen for lvl 1 and 2 and now 3s, I Plan on going into Apocalypse for level 4s.

On a note I have very low SP (tech1 everything except cap recharger mids) So you should have no problem with a Navy Omen on level 3s.. I suggest going for apocalypse for level 4s.. Based on my research it is the best to start out doing level 4s with.

from my experience.... FC's words:

" zealot fleet guys, if you cannot fly one, try your best with a Omen Navy Issue" .... :-)

Go with the Navy Issue one and keep training for the Zealot......

Then you can skip the Zealot completely. It's not a good PvE boat.

I suppose you could do some Sansha or Blood belt ratting with it, but beyond that… brrr…

since when was it a good idea to use a 200m ship to run missions that'll barely get you 2m?

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.
