Why aren't there Q ships?

Q ships might not have been the most successful ship ever used by navies, but I think they might have a place in the eve universe.

It would be cool to have a class of tech II industrial ships that were designed to look like a tech 1 industrial (until they engaged in combat or were actually scanned by a ship scanner).

The basic idea would be to have a module that when activated would hide all of your weapons until you baited some one into point range, then opened your ships hidden weapon ports, launched drones and took them out. Of course the ship would still fly like an indy, but it would sacrifice its cargo hold for more slots, better cap, better base tank and a drone bay.

How about this:

Concealed Turret Rig: Adds 4 concealed Turret hard points and increases the number of high slots by 4 (up to a maximum of 8) at the expense of 2,000 m3 cargo capacity.

Concealed Missile Rig: Adds 4 concealed Missile hard points and increases the number of high slots by 4 (up to a maximum of 8) at the expense of 2,000 m3 cargo capacity.

Oversized Aftermarket Systems Upgrade Rig: Increase to Powergrid, CPU, and Capacitor generation at the expense of 2,000 m3 cargo capacity.

Bodged Drone Bay Rig: Adds 50 m3 Drone Bay and 50 Mbit/Sec bandwidth at the expense of 2000 m3 cargo capacity.

Aftermarket Electronics Array Rig: Adds 2 Mid slots at the expense of 2000 m3 of cargo capacity.

Aftermarket Subsystems Array Rig: Adds 2 Low slots at the expense of 2000 m3 of cargo capacity.


There you go. Q-Ship that would have the same name as an Industrial, because you are using the original Industrial ship hull.

The Cargo capacity required to fit these rigs would prevent them from being fitted on a non industrial ship. The rig size would prevent it from being fitted on capital ships.

For the other rigs to be worth anything you would have to fit an Oversized Aftermarket Systems Upgrade Rig, so in combination with another rig any Q-Ship would have at least 4000m3 less cargo capacity than an unmodified Industrial. The cargo capacity bonus on the ships will allow skilled pilots to fit three of these Rigs.

The resulting Q-Ship would not be as good as a warship, but you might get some fights that you would not get in a warship.

Since this topic comes up a lot I thought I would take a crack at it. Am I missing any angle that might make these OP or something?

Why do people keep mentioning Industrials.

Q Ships were the RL equivalent of Shuttles with a single small frigate gun.

Your all thinking of Armed Merchant Men and Auxiliary Cruisers.
