And this brings us to the beginning of the roughly 8000 years of mystery time that is dubbed the Dark Ages. It is during this time that the Architects begin building the First Jovian Empire. Genetically engineering the human race to fit their designs for humanity's future. I refer to the Architects as the An, or Ani if you will, where the Sleeper Mystery begins.

Quote:
Whoever considers the past and the present will readily observe that all cities and all peoples... ever have been animated by the same desires and the same passions; so that it is easy, by diligent study of the past, to foresee what is likely to happen in the future in any republic, and to apply those remedies that were used by the ancients, or not finding any that were employed by them, to devise new ones from the similarity of events. Machiavelli

The first thing that seems self evident, the An retained space faring technology at the collapse of the Eve Gate. They also retained a fair amount of manufacturing and mining abilities, as well.. They must have. Given this chron, it is possible the infrastructure between planet and orbital might have broken down completely. The An were quite possibly, and simply, the space stranded astronauts in the huge space going colony ships made specifically to build the infrastructure for a spacebound society. With the loss of the huge population base of the Old World, they were uneeded, or so far into the cluster performing their function, they had no clue the Gate collapsed, until later. The Starship Crewmen, Electricians, Engineers, Mechanics, Scientists and Laborers who lived amongst the fledgeling asteroid belt mining stations, maintained the first Stargates and so forth. We see the remnants of their culture scattered across the cluster, the hulks, huge shuttles and ghost ships, a testiment to their astronautical engineering capabilities. Maybe...Blink

The culture(s) of humanity who supposedly traversed the Eve Gate to colonise New Eden were vastly superior to what we know in the cluster today. The An very likely consisted of a limited population that conatined a broad overview of the Old World society, if they were the spacers. A study of The Mirror should provide insights into this culture and it's technological accomplishments, at the very least. There appear to be five or six "levels" to the enclaves. The numbering is curious, a hierarchal code, but, my dislike for math has prevented me from deciphering it.Roll

Archive Enclave is an entire enclave dedicated to an apparent library of knowledge that the An culture had acquired, much of which might be considered outdated or elementary. The evidence of residential areas would seem to indicate much of these enclaves would contain passages and structural accomodation for conventional humans.

1.1 - 3.3 Digital Backup Library [ The first thing the An culture, as I like to call it Smile, did was to collect all the digital media existent, and save it.. Being a Digital Media minded people, they saved every disc, datacore and info matrix they could find. Information is knowledge and knowledge is power. I imagine this to take up several pie sections of the structure with row upon row of servers and storage drives. This is the penultimate goal of the An, the acquisition of knowledge and synchronistically and semiotically, power. At first, simply the power to survive.

3.4 - 3.5 Terran Artifacts [ This part of the structure is linguistically curious, to me. It lends credence to a multi ethnic population. Seems like a rather limited space to house actual artifacts of Terran designs, unless miniturization through the use of nanite technology had progressed incredibly far, or it is simple blueprints and schematics.. Two small sections tucked away on level three? I would dispute the argument that this is a digital representation, looking at the above entry. The answer, I guess, lies entirely upon which kind of artifact these are. And why do they call them Terran artifacts? Does this designate a basic difference between the An and Terrans? Or a departure from an archaic view of race? Setting themselves firmly Terrans, or humans, and simply wish to record it for posterity? That is the most likely supposition, to me.

4.1 Theories of the Eve Gate [ Ya, they seemed to know about as much about the Eve Gate as we do..Lol Notice it is not Eve wormhole.. They didn't seem to know what the GATE was. I very seriously doubt they built it. Or if they did, something went horribly wrong and they were looking for a way to fix it. Apparently, they never did.

5.1 Talocan Technology [Another linguistic curiosity. Is Talocan technology new technology, that the An developed to survive after the collapse of the Eve Gate? Or is it distinct, something the An encounter after the collapse of Eve Gate? I lean toward this being the technology they develop to survive in space, cut off from the planetary populations and supplies. Thus their firm grasp of astronautical engineering. Making the Talocan the second incarnation of the An culture. The fledgling First Jove Empire. The cultural exchange depots are the gathering places for humans of different ethnic backgrounds, the crews and personnel of the diverse spacing interests, to come together out of the need to survive and trade. They were the caravanserai of the culture. Precursors to the huge stations that exist today. I think.. Lol

6.1 - 6.9 Emergent Ideologies [ Given that interplanetary commerce had collapsed, much of this culture had lost it's modus operandi.

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then, and it's a poor sort of memory that only works backward.

To rebuild a purpose for it's culture, these Talocans built a new ethos and direction for their society, based upon the needs and desires of a human population trapped in space. The First Jove began building their prison. From here we need to step away from The Mirror to explore the Talocan relics for a more in depth understanding of the Jove. Again, if my preposition is sound.

Talocan Info shards indicate a higher degree of sophistication than Talocan sketch books do, while sketch books to me indicate a more theoretical posture of content. This shows the devolving nature of the society materialisticly, as it advanced in technology. Adapting to an evironment with new designs and ways of accomplishing things planetary settlers would not need to think about. It is quite possible the Talocan had it far worse than many planetary settlers. The rapid growth of the early Jovian society was out of desperation to survive in a hostile environment.

For instance, something as simple as keeping time, must rely on something other than astronomical constants, one of their developments was the Talocan perpetual clock.

While advanced beyond Tech 1 in some respects, Talocan mechanical gears show in many respects they resorted to simple mechanical methods that are easy to maintain and replace.

The Talocan solid atomizer and the Talocan molecule binder show an advanced understanding of molecular chemistry. While the Talocan stasis Inverter and Talocan stasis deflector would appear to be devices to manipulate chemical equilibrium. Placing them in a position to embark on genetic advances in biochemistry, one of the Jovians most industrious fields early on.

Someone from Arek'Jaalan should really approach Eifyr with the idea of utilizing a Talocan system interface unit and the Talocan automation accounts to develop a Talocan data analyzer. Perhaps some of the acquired Talocan datafiles could be compiled into a binary datacore.

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then, and it's a poor sort of memory that only works backward.

Wow! Many thanks to those who have participated in my little round tables here on the forums.. I think I am getting closer to my rubber biscuit...Blink And so too, should you be..

The above posts need a serious redact.. Anyone care to try their hand? Anyone care to take a stab at who and what the early Jovians might have been?

The world population is estimated to grow to 9.2 billion people by 2050, in the real world.. By the time the Eve Gate was discovered, that population, according to the Malthusian growth chart, would have been 1.5 trillion. To maintain a population of 10 billion, which has been decried as excessive for earth, you would require 150 thousand planets like earth. Or, another solution..

Given the proposed advances in technology and the concurrent decline in mortality rate, this is a conservative estimate at an average 2% a year..

Then again, moving an entire race into stasis and putting all consciousness into a Virtual Reality would make having bodies in stasis obsolete, especially with a clone vat bay handy.
