A very bad idea, because it is a very bad idea to hit auto pilot. I support stupid people losing their ships for being stupid, and hitting the auto pilot and going AFK until it lands is very stupid. Set dest/ warp to 0/jump rinse repeat is the best way to travel.

I'm a nerd, you can check my stats!! Skilling Int/Mem at 45 sp per minute is how I mack!     I'm like a lapdog, all bark no bite.

After hearing about the warp to zero skill that you could train to improve the autopilot i think i kinda like the idea. Basically you will train a skill, which at level 5 will have increased the precision of your autopilot with 10km. This means you will land approximately 5km from gates or stations when autopiloting

No.

Nothing wrong with being AFK, but it'll come at an efficiency penalty. Hence warping to 15km off.

Is there any reason to penalize it then?

Yes. You're putting less effort in, you get less efficiency out.

Just like with PI.

Thats not really a reason to penalize travel, but even so, with the skill implemented the fastest way to travel would still be manual

There's no reason to reward people being AFK either.

Yes there is, if you are AFK you are not playing, if you are not playing you deserve to be taught a lesson. And on the bright side, this idea is so not needed, it has no chance to ever be brought live. CCP, also thinks stupid people should pay for their stupidity.

We can argure for weeks on if being AFK auto piliot is stupid.

If you cannot be at your keyboard while traveling, park your ship. You already have all the options you need to travel.

Aaah, imagine a flight system where you can warp wherever you want, abort the warp whenever you want, alter course during warp whenever you want.

Warping to 0 on to fixed location is ancient stuff. Being locked completely during warp is equally ancient. Whilst it makes perfectly sense as to how and why the current system is the way it is, I think EVE today should be more than capable of removing those restrictions.

Unfortunately, once again, it would require modifying a few other parts of the game alongside the travel system - like the way you detect ships and possibly capture them as well as possible changes in the way you jump out of a system (I still want to see a fully free entry to a system rather than a fixed entry)

Upside however would be that the space in any system would become a lot more relevant, and more importantly, size of a system would actually matter a lot more. Not to mention that warp-speed related rigs would actually run the risk of being useful depending on the resourcefulness of players.

i like it
I don't fly out of my system much, but I enjoy different skills like that.

This is obviously a nerf to high sec freighter ganking. Anyone can see it.

The entire reason a freighter can get ganked is by autopiloting through space, getting caught off the gate, and then bumped in the opposite direction.

This is a CCP again making highsec safer, and thus the dumbing down of EVE continues. All you have to do now is train the "i'm too lazy to sit at my screen an pay attention while traveling" skill

FC, what do?

I think WTZ should be gotten rid of all together.

I'm sure I remember a time when it didnt exist....

Plus remove stargates. And concord. Travelling through systems should take thousands of years and be completely unsafe. Your arrival should be heralded by your own radio bubble and nothing else. Local should be removed and replaced with a submarine type "Ping" system. Ships on the other side of the galexy should be damaged by stray rounds fired from other systems. And surely by now at least 2 stars should have gone supernova! And where is the planet of the Apes???

Minmatar....we are generally unpleasant to be around....

So, I take it here isn't the right place to bring up making everyone land at least 15km from every gate?

I, too, want to spend all my time making bookmarks 15km behind the gate, just like we did in the old days.

It was so much fun.

At what point do things become too convenient?

Their does come a point where a game becomes so dumbed down and "convenient" that any sort of challenge related adrenaline rush ceases, leaving nothing to do but tedious farming for tedious pvp, and when a game reaches that stage it's membership numbers usually sink like the Titanic.

Please don't step over that ledge CCP, challenge is what makes an MMO worth playing.

I am compelled to fully agree with Paul Oliver on this.
What next ? Train POD-piloting so you cannot be podded - ever ?

No CCP, that ledge is treacherous. Gold Ammo will follow and then "I Win" buttons too.

Also I'm sure CCP loved it whenever players copied all of these bookmarks to sell to other players.

As did the SQL server.

So much fun, let's do this.
