Is it possible...

Hello forum goers!

As you may have guessed I am new around here, I started my trial account yesterday, and although the scale of some of it (ok most of it) blows my mind I m keen to keep exploring EVE.

My question is this....

Is it possible to make enough ISK in a trail account (either 14 or 21 day) to buy a PLEX and so activate my account for free REALISTICALLY!

Aka without grinding 24/7

If not I will have to reconsider my options, but if so could somebody please point me in the right direction.... Blink

Thank you ALL so much.

It's possible to do it through playing the market, if you are REALLY good and lucky, or by scamming some poor bastard out of the isk necessary to buy the PLEX.

Good luck, but I'd get your credit card handy, just in case.

Hmm sounds like a no Ugh because considering im a newbie im not likely to either know the market and how it works or how to (legally) scam...

But thanks anyway

There are other ways to do it, but they require effort.

it is possible, but it would be difficult.
Not saying that time frame is hard to make that much money in, but being so new you don't know the ways to make that amount of money.

Also, don't be a poorpheg and actually help out CCP

I prefer to pay for a game with real money when I am sure that it is worth it and with a game this size 14 days just aint long enough... Some of us are cautious with our cash.

Its not really something you want to rely on. I also suggest just paying for a month if it interests you.

Its wondrous.

Indeed, prior is correct, and I hit the quote button not the edit...

And no this is BY FAR the biggest game I have ever come across.

Well you could subscribe for a month? Then you'd have 6 weeks under your belt, enough time to know if you'd like a little more. ( Although, if you are still interested after 2 weeks, I think you may have the bug Smile)

Well ok, if 14 days is not enough? How about another 21 days? How you ask? Is this guy insane for even suggesting another 21 days? Of course he is!!

Search these forums for buddy codes, there are people willing to shoot you one, and offer you an ISK bonus if you updrade, that will give you 35 days, the down side is you have restart your avatar.

At any rate, hope you find your niche and enjoy this great game.

I'm a nerd, you can check my stats!! Skilling Int/Mem at 45 sp per minute is how I mack!     I'm like a lapdog, all bark no bite.

Hello forum goers!

Let me put this in a very simple way, if I may. :) First, welcome to Eve Online. I hope you find it as enjoyable as I do.

Next, some basic information:

The cost of a subscription is, I think, $15/month (US, month-to-month, cheaper if you buy more at once).

The minimum wage in the US is $7.25/hour (though many states are higher).

This means that your average minimum wage worker will spend a little over two hours (not counting taxes) to pay for a month's worth of Eve time. If we want to be fair, lets call it four hours after taxes.

A PLEX is/was about 500m ISK in Jita yesterday, I think.

Now, is it possible to make that much ISK in four hours? Sure...

With luck, you could scam or trade your way to the ISK. With luck, you could join a nullsec alliance and be able to mine rare ores in relative peace and maybe you could mine the equivalent of a PLEX in four hours. With luck, you might find a wreck full of all sorts of goodies right outside of Jita.

Are there ways to do it which don't entirely depend on luck? Sure! Are they possible on a trial account? I ... don't think so.

I don't say all of this stuff to come across as a jerk. That's not my intention, at all. My suggestion is to put up the $15 for a month and really try the game out without any "trial restrictions". Try a bunch of different stuff to see what you like to do. If, after a month, you decide the game is worth playing, pay for another month, and then start looking at things you can do in 4 hours or less to make the ISK necessary to pay for your subscription.

After all, if you have to "work" all month to "pay" for your game with ingame currency, is it really worth it? That's the question I'd ask. It seems cheaper, with respect to the time spent, time which we never get back, to pay the fee and just keep playing.

That said, as someone who once asked the same question, I can tell you that I now pay for my game with ISK, but it's taken me awhile to get to this point. It IS possible, eventually. Just make sure you like the game before you head down that path.

Well considering I am not very far anyway restarting is not to much of a problem, so you are saying that the 14 day and 21 day stack?

Thank you, for by far the most helpful post yet, and thank you for being tolerant :)
I think that the general consensus of opinion is to get a buddy invite, subscribe for a month, if I like it pay for a few more months until I am set up enough in game to buy my own PLEX in-game.

Well thanks to everybody that has helped me out I have some considering to do. ( like whether I can actually spare the time :P)

So long as you don't use the Character Bazaar or Buddy Program system to do it, you're good. Now scam to your heart's content.

You might try exploration. A good drop in the right HS exploration sites will cover a PLEX in one go (Deadspace Invulns, I'm looking at you). But of course, there's competition.

^^ This.

Although don't think you can fly into a pirate den in you noobship and walk out with millions of ISK. You'll walk out with no ship, a red face and probably biomass.

You'll need to spend a few days getting your ship and weapon skills up and I would recommend attacking at range if possible as the missile batteries can ruin your day very quickly.

To add credence to Pipa's statement, I hit a basic Guristas Den in a Caracal and an officer class cruiser dropped an 88m ISK implant. Back that with other loot, salvage and bounty's, and you are nearly a quarter of the way there.
